PSW650 sub placement

Hi all - I have the RM7500 HT system that I am now using for my 2 channel stereo (plus sub of course) as my room size has limitations for the HT system. I have the sub placed between the end of a sofa and a large teak cabinet. There is about 4 inches on either side. I know this is probably horrible placement for bass. Any comments? There aren't a lot of places for me to put the monster.

Thanks,

Erik

Sometimes you just need to experiment a bit with the placement. I would suggest picking up an SPL meter and test tones to measure your bass response in different spots. Every room is a bit different, so it's hard to say what would work best.

Put the sub where you normally sit, turn it on and walk around the room. Wherever it sounds "best" to you, depending on where you're standing, is where you put the sub.

I also have a very large sub, and placement was a problem. It ended up in a corner wedged between a wall and the couch, with the drivers firing into the wall with about two inches or so clearance. This placement actually gave better results than having the drivers face the listening position. Being in the corner helped a lot, I think. I wouldn't worry at all about your sub being between the sofa and a cabinet, especially if this also involves it being near a wall. When it's placed you'll probably also want to play with the input polarity.

Sub placement can be very important. In our liv. rm. of 12'x 16" I tried it in 4 different locations and it sounded very different in each place.

Ditto. I have a 12' X 42' room and placed my SVS PC Ultra all over the HT half of the room 'till I got it right.
