What's the appropriate height for Speaker stands and RTI4's?
the polk audio guide said 30" - but that just seems too high and doesn't look right. The ones I have now are 22" and am just wanting to upgrade for aesthetic purposes. The ones i'm looking at getting only come in sizes 24" and 31". Would 24" stands be good for ear level on a couch? Isn't that a safe standard?
I just saw Russ's Sonus Faber post and it looks like he has those beauties on 24" stands, but I could be wrong.
These are the ones I'm thinking about getting- for 2reasons- they would match perfect with my black rti4's, and i believe they can be filled with leadshot/sand IF I ever wanted to go that route.

any feedback would be most appreciated.

24" stands 100% - METAL- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I always thought the fronts should be high enough so the tweeters are at same height (or aproximate) as your ears sitting down.
So it's the stand size plus the height of the speaker added to it..?Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

That's what I thought Mike- But with the 30" stands the whole damn speaker would be above ear level if I was sitting down; or pretty close to it. I'm just going by what Polk said under the speaker stand section. They recommend 30" stands for rti4 and 24" stands for rti6.
I'm thinking seriously about balking that advice and just getting the 24's. But I was just wanting some feedback before I did and perhaps any feedback on the actual stands I was thinking of purchasing.Vr3MxStyler2k3 wrote:24" stands 100% - METAL
What do you mean? -
I saw those stands in the store. Those metal spikes actually are adjustable (I think). They screw in/out but felt more secure having them totally screwed in.
I guess it all depends on the couch you have and you actual ear height while sitting. I would probably go with the 24" also..the rti4 is only 2 3/4" shorter..Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

thanks Mike. As usual you're always at the front lines when it comes to helping others on here. -

thanks bud I don't know as much as others but I try.
The rti6 is only 2 3/4 inch taller than the rti4. The rti4 is 12" high so if you get the 24" stands, your tweets will be about ~34" high (tweets about 10" high, +/- on the speaker). To be really sure, may sound silly: measure your ear height sitting down and see which stand fits better with the height of the 4s, ..have someone help you approximate too..Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

oh i gotcha now. Thanks Sid. I think for the price though i'll just get these- i can get them for $40 and just fill them up with leadshot. I'm focusing more on looks than anything else right now.

i just bought a pair of Odyssey Epiphony mini monitors and i used the floor to ear measurement method in my listening chair and wound up getting a pair of medium weight 24" steel stands from parts express. i filled them with non shrinking grout and it made them nonresonant. they come with spikes on the base and the top plate. the spikes are adjustable and can be locked by means of a jam nut.they have a nice looking black wrinkle finish that looks exactly like the top cover of my Anthem pre 1L. they were around $65.00 for the pair........good luck..WCW IIIRogue Audio stereo 100 tube amplifier - Lector Zoe preamplifier with 6H30 pi's

I have a pair of RTi6's sittin' pretty on top of 24" Omni stands. That puts the tweeter at about 36" which falls pretty close to dead center of my screen (51" Sony). They look like they were meant to go with these speakers! I'm thinking of filling them with sand and leadshot soon.If you don't drive a Jeep, then please stay on the pavement.

where's the best place to get sand or leadshot? Lowes/Home Depot?
Which one's cheaper? Sand or Leadshot? These are the first stands I've ever had that can loaded with either so i'm just now learning. -
I'm not sure about which may be cheaper, but I'm planning on loading mine with both. First with the leadshot and then let the sand fill in the voids between the shot. I think your local gun shop or outdoor supply warehouse can provide the shot. You can probably find sand at a local construction site. They'll probably let you have a few scoops for free if you kindly explain what you're using it for.If you don't drive a Jeep, then please stay on the pavement.

Sand is like 1.50 for a big ol bag which could fill up about 20 stands. Seriously. Get that sanitized play sand stuff...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
