Yet Another Placement thread :-)

I'm looking at getting some fxi3's for my surround (5.1) and am wondering if I should
a) Put the fxi3's on the back wall equidistant from the center of the couch to the corner of the room (9' ctr to corner) and the other one on a stand mirroring the corner one except this one will be on an open wall... or
b) Hide some directional (my RTi28's that are now in front for example) in the corners facing slightly up and get a pair of bigger fronts... or
c) Stress out some more.

Pics attached :-)

Thanks in advance
Jim

PS You're looking at the only three chairs (five seats) in the living room.

    Movies or Multichannel music?

I'd go with A) for movies, b) for multichannel music and a) if you're not into SACD/ DVD-A

Doesn't look like you can do side walls (window in the way), so go with the FX's on the back wall in bipole...

But play around with it & see what sounds good to you.

if it's mostly movies like you said- FXI3's on the side walls in dipole mode (as long as it's a 5.1 setup only)

That's the problem, I've only got one side wall :(
I can put one where the picture on the wall is while I would have to mount the other one on a stand and have it off of the back wall about a foot, hovering in mid-air. Do-able, but I have to account for the waf. These diffuse surrounds are new to me so I'm still trying to figure out if I can cornermount them (which no-one has suggested and I've never seen), back wall w/ one bouncing off the side wall and one off nothing, or the abovementioned sidewall with one stand. OR park some directionals (just bought 2 r15s on sale at FS and can bring them back until Oct 7) and forget about it. It just seems to me that the longer I wait and look for answers the better decisions I make. Waited awhile and got a H/K 330 from here, looked around and got a good deal on a psw10 sub, etc. I want to do it right the first time :D

No side wall? I'd go with the rear wall in bipole mode.

    What did I say??? :D

anyhow, try out the corner placement, too & if it doesn't sound quite right, try wiring them out of phase- swap the red & black wires going to the speaker... You're going to get an immediate reflection off of the back & side walls, which might make an 180 degree phase swap work better. tough to say since it comes down to the individual room.
