Jolida sounds "thin"

I had once again givin the wife and daughter some money to go out and "do whatever", so I could have the house all to myself...and watch movies loudly...and crank up the ol 2ch beauty that is a shrine to the guys on this forum...namely Mark, Jesse, and the tube man himself..Russman.. :cool:

along with the rest of the Polkies that have helped me out in one way or the other...

For some reason though, she sounded kinda thin...
I let the tubes warm up for about 30 min, along with the amp (which still only has 20-30 hrs on it), and my Jolida-100 CDP..

I was wondering if the reason could be because of the tube cdp, and tube pre

there are 7308`s in the Jolida, and today`s pre amp selection was Amperex 6DJ8`s (Germany)...

I realize that rolling tubes change the sound dramatically (to me), but could she be going through growing pains...ie;breakin changes..

maybe it`s just the tube choice.....just thought I`d ask ...do tubes in the line stage of the cdp and the pre have to match..?
or should they..?

    I've found the best sound I've gotten lately is from the regular Ei grayplates in the Joilda and the Amperex 6DJ8's in the ELP. The tubes certainly don't have to match but there are combos that work better than others it seems. It just makes it a little more difficult to find them with 2 components in the mix. I think our minds and bodies play a huge role in how good our systems sound at any given time though. Sometimes mine just sounds magical and then I have trouble duplicating the experience later. I think sometimes everything is just perfect in our minds and bodies for a listening experience and when we can't duplicate it every time we tend to blame our systems.

    any idea where I might pick up a pair of these tubes for my Jolida.?
    are they 7308`s ?

    The Ei's are a freakin' bargain. I think I got mine at tube depot for like $7 apiece. Tube Depot has incrediblly fast shipping too.

    I told ya before, get the Ei Elite Gold Pins. I haven't tried the grayplates, so get some of them too and let me know what you think.

    Why do you have 7308's in the Jolida? That's a 6DJ8 variant, not a 12AX7 variant.

    Waste your money on Ei if you want to, and follow the herd. I've got your 7025's ready to go, unless you want me to bring them up instead.

    I didn't buy them because they have gold pins, I bought them because they sound good. If the regular version sounds the same, it's all good with me.

    I think the Ei gray plates are a different tube altogether that some people seem to prefer. I don't know though....maybe they're the same freakin' thing without the gold pins. They sound real good though. I'm hesitant to switch these out even though I've got some brand new Sovtek LPS's I haven't tried yet.
