I'am thinking of replacing my center channel (csi400) its alittle to heavy for the set top stand on top of the 60" sony lcd. I thought i might go csi 3 ,but I don't know alot about it, nor have I ever heard one. Would this be a step up or a step down, and would they match my rti6's any closer than the 400. What do you guys think?

the csi3 and the rti6's were designed to complement each other. The csi400 is an older variant of the rti line itself.

well if space and proper timbre are your primary concerns, then yeah sell the csi400 and get a csi3. The csi400 is a bigger and more expensive speaker so you should get good money for it. Although the csi3 lacks the powerport and biwiring capabilities of the csi400, it's still an excellent performer and imo has a better tweeter than the older model. If you've got your speakers set to "small" and crossed over at 80hz or so, you won't miss anything.

If you have the CSi40... and not the CS400i or CS400 - get the CSi3. If you have the CS400i or CS400, do NOT get the CSi3.

doesn't sound like audio quality is an issue- if the tv can hold the weight there's no reason to up/downgrade i suppose. the 400's built like a you know what.

it just that the tv is so wide iam afraid over time that the middle could start to sag. and if i build a shelf over the top of the tv i could lose some of the imaging since the tv is already so tall almost 5' 9'' on top of the stand
