4 ohm ?

if I run a 4ohm speaker in bridged mode, does that make it a 2ohm load ?
I want to use my LsiC with my Rotel 980 in bridged mode because that`s the only way I can figure out how to use it...unless the top posts on the speak goes to one ch (R), and the bottom goes to another (L)
If I can`t make this work somehow, I see no reason to keep the Lsi`s (except the 9`s), or a couple of the 980`s...
I know it`s astupid question, but I`m hoping somebody will tell me it`s okay..!!!!!

You're so close to having it correct, just sorta flipped 180 degrees.
When you bridge two speakers of equal loads, you halve the load (two 4 ohm speakers will become 2 ohms from the view of the amp). When you bridge an amp, the load doesn't change at all on the speaker. The Rotel, when bridged, is sort of putting two amps together to increase the power a lot.
I'm a bit confused on your setup, but if you've already powered your 9's and have the Rotel just sitting there waiting for a speaker, go ahead and use it in bridged mode on the LSiC.Brian Knauss

I have one amp one the 9`s, one amp on the 7`s, and the third amp for the center...but since there is only one speaker, the only way to hook it up is in bridged mode...as a mono amp
didn`t want to screw the amp or speaker up
the amp is 4ohm stable, and the speaker is 4ohm....if the amp is bridged is it still 4ohm ?Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre Amp (Jag Blue)

NO, the Rotel bridged is only rated to drive a 8 ohm load.Political Correctness'.........defined

Dog, as BK pointed out, the speaker's impedance itself doesn't decrease; the 4 ohm impedance is set by the internal wiring of the speaker driver and the amplifier can't change that. What does happen is that when two amplifier channels are bridged into one speaker the amplifier supplies double the usual voltage to the speaker and because of Ohm's law(I=E/R; current equals voltage divided by resistance)the current the amplifier supplies is also doubled(the process isn't 100% efficient, so it's a little less in practice). So the bottom line is that although the speaker load is still 4 ohms, the bridged amplifier has to supply more current, almost as much as if it was driving a 2 ohm speaker. Your amplifier may or may not be able to do this without its protective circuits shutting it down.

thanks bro...
looks like the Lsi`s are gonna have to move, or all the RTi`s and amps..Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre Amp (Jag Blue)

Bear,
Rotel does/did make a 3 channel amp, which could be the simple answer to your problem.Political Correctness'.........defined

I was trying to use what I have....a lot of..
I can sell a couple of sets of speaks, or a couple of amps , and get a 5 ch amp....but I was trying to make it easy , as I have a hard time selling stuff..
not as much buyin it ....it would seem..!!
I have a Dennon 3802 , and a Yamaha that I swapped out for the Dennon..
I like them both , so the yammie went into the bedroom ( where I have never been able to keep my eyes open long enough to actually watch a movie),
and now I need to down size
I really want the Parasound 5 ch amp and 7100...but...gotta sell stuff...easier said than done.. :rolleyes:Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre Amp (Jag Blue)

Bear, any reason you couldn't bi-wire the LSic. Just run a y cable from the center output to the left and right input on the amp then run the left channel to the top post and the right channel to the bottom post.
I don't know if you would notice any great difference, but if you have the extra amp channel, why not try it....

I think I did that a while back, and it worked out okay..
I`ll try it again tomorrow....
I think that selling everything and getting a Parasound 5250 would make it better.!!
I just have a hard time letting things go...
didn`t I just say that.?!!
