Sunday I have to say good-bye to my best friend of seven years because of my move to the west coast. There she was every day at the door, tail wagging, waiting for my return from work. Priceless! The Great Dane rescue of DE/PA is adopting her until a more permanent home is found.

Sunday will suck! :(

Can't imagine how you feel. I have had a lab/golden mix for the last 6 or 7 years and I can't imagine having to part with her. Sad times, for sure.

I'm sure she'll end up with a good home, though.

Greg are you driving thru Indy on your way to Cali?? If so, I might be able to talk the wife into taking on another dog.

thanks to you all for the kind words. I'm sure Rocky will have a good home but I also have this little tornado, Mattie to worry about finding a good home for. There wasn't a day these two didn't make me laugh.

I went to buy a male Toy Rat Terrier pup at a breeder's farm, because the wifey wanted a tiny lapdog and the one I was going after wasn't supposed to get over 5-6 pounds. Well, someone beat me there by about 20 minutes, so the only Rat they had left wasn't a toy and already weighed 10 lbs or so. So I decided to walk down to the kennels to see how big the rats parents were and there was my little Daisy May in a kennel all by herself. I asked the woman about her and she said she was 5 months old and she would let me have her for free. So I asked why noone had taken her, and found out she was born with a bad left rear knee. Her kneecap is located on the inside of her knee instead of on the front. I guess this is fairly common in dogs. Anyways, since she had this disablilty, she couldn't sell her. You know, she can't be bred or shown. It made me feel a little better about the breeder too, since most would have put her down long before cause they wouldn't be able to recoup their costs in feeding her , giving shots, bobbing her tail, etc, etc...
Anyways, I took her home and the only time you can even tell she's got a problem is when she walks real slow. She can run and jump with the best of them, well maybe not jump as well but still she jumps pretty damn good. To make a long story short, she's quite a handfull, but I wouldn't give her up for anything, unless I was in the same boat you're in Greg.

Yup, you can be the biggest horse's **** or have the worst day of your life and they are always there to give ya a big wet one. Something about those sad looking eyes that absolutely kills ya.

ND, my daughter's boyfriend has two rat terriers and one had his leg broken at a very early age..not exactly sure. Anyway, it was never properly treated and his right front paw points outs at a 90 degree angle as a result. Amazingly, he is just as quick as his brother. Damn thing can actually jump up on the kitchen counter if the situation warrants......FOOD.

danger, it gets a little complicated. Basically it is because of the logistics involved. Unfortunately, I really have no choice in the matter. Sucks! Uhm, why do you ask?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there'd ever be a situation that could come up to make me leave my pets. I have two cats (apt + dog = bad for dog IMO) and if someone told me they'd pay me $100+K to move and I couldn't take them, I'd say "I'm sorry... I'll have to pass." Leaving my pets would be like leaving my kids (not saying I have any, but these lil rascals are my kids) or girlfriend. Sorry, not happening.

Sorry to hear you have to leave your friends, Greg! Get them a good home and have the memories with you..

btw, are you driving to SC? I'll be most likely still in the bay area for the next few weeks, perhaps once you settled, we'll meet up in SF downtown (or SJ) for a beer or two.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Well, with all the crap going on in my life for the past few years, watching this heart wrenching stuff going on down in the gulf region, and now having to say goodby to my two best friends, I'm just about over the edge.

Anyway, I will be flying out. My brother-in-law is flying into the big apple for a family reunion and he will be driving my truck back to west coast. I originally wanted to drive out myself but there is just no way that I could sit for that length of time. Hell, the flight out will be difficult enough.

Once I get situated out there, I'm gonna' look ya up for sure! A few others out there I'd like to get together with and suck some suds with also.

Oh. I have read about a few tears being shed by a few members here on some other threads. Well add one more.
