2 R15s for center or 1 for center and 1 for rear (for 6.1)?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, this is my first post. I got some nice deals from Fry's and wonder if you could help me for speakers setting.

I plan to use R50 for front, R30 for rear. Now I've been thinking for a center. I was gonna wait for a CSi25 on sale on Frys but I also got a pair of R15. I'm thinking if I could use the R15 for center? And should I use both of them for center (will make a 5.1)? or 1 for center front and 1 for center rear (for 6.1)? (Or is it a bad idea for using R15 as center?) Could you give me your suggestions? A pair of R15 is much cheaper than any of Polk's center speaker so I want to use R15 instead.

Other info:
Will set up in a living room in an apartment
Recevier - Denon AVR485 (6.1)
Sub - Dayton 10" Powered Sub
Still deciding 16G or 12G ($25 different for 100')

Habits: Movie 70% Music 30%

I would get a center-there is a reason they are more expensive. Also, the tweeter on the R15 doesn't sound very detailed to me and since the center is mainly dialouge, clearer highs is desireable. But, if you want to use the R15s, use both for the front channel, and if possible put one on each side of the TV. At least, that is what I would do, the very best idea is just to experiment and see which scenario you like better. Remember, sound is subjective

If you already have the R15s, definately try them as a center. Having R50s, R30s, and R15s myself, I have played with one R15 for a center and didn't care for it (but try it anyway). There are a couple of other placement options, when using 2 speakers for a center:

- Stand them upright, either below or above the TV at around the 1/3 points of the TV width (try tweeters both up and both down).

- Lay them on their side woofer to woofer (also try tweeter to tweeter), either above or below your TV.

Wanna watch out for ohm load though with 2 R15's and one center...unless i understood that wrong...i was thinking about this set up...hopefully the denon could do it....but anyway your setup is very similar to mine except receiver....so I would probably not do r15...b/c i did have one as a center for a while...instead got a cs1 for 110...just use the r15 for now and wait for polk or get a csi1 or 3...1 is quite popular but 3 is used as well...

You can not just connect two speakers together like that ..you have to watch for the load. Thats what he meant to say.

ok sorry was in a rush had to go somewhere hence the dots...

ok with a denon, dependent on the ohm load of the speakers (most are 8) if you hook up two of these r15's it'll bring the ohm load to 4 ohms on your denon; which some receivers can't do safetly. Some can...some can't...not sure about yours. I have tried to set up an r15 as a single center, but found it very VERY inadequete. You can get the CS1 the closest thing after that csi25 for roughly the same price as the CSI25. Many people use the CS1 or the CS3.
