While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

He would call his journey the Marathon of Hope.

I dont know how well known Terry Fox is outside of Canada, but he is a national hero here. He almost ran across Canada on one leg to raise money. He had to end his journey 25 years ago today because of lung cancer. He died at the age of 22. He has raised over 300 million for cancer research.

If you would like to learn more about Terry and his foundation or the the Terry Fox Run click here:

The company I work for is selling remakes of Terry's shoes, all profits going to charity.

we are in the Terry Fox run, we are biking the 10K. Don't know where the statue is anymore but it used to be downtown. I bake with my wife pumpkin cupcakes Tuesday night, for a bake sale again for TF.

I just remembered when I was moving from Kenora to Thunderbay, we drove past him ( not him directly) he was resting, but the entourage. I remember vaguely my mom saying Terry Fox, but at the age of 5 I didn't care.
