RM6900 with HK235 = Confusion

Hi All,

I've had my HK235 and my RM6900's since early spring and after doing some reading on here I'm worried I may have everything hooked up wrong.

Right now I've got everthing going to my receiver, sub connected via LFE input. I remember when I set it up I was confused as hell, Harman Kardon telling me one thing, Polk documentation telling me another...

Anyways, I checked out a couple of threads and the Education documentation and it says that "Some processors and receivers have unfiltered subwoofer output jacks-so it's OK to connect the line in..." Well I can't seem to find that kind of info on the 235, so I don't know what to do...

For now I'm going to leave as is because performance to me sounds ok, but I'm moving in a couple of months and well have to re-wire everything for a new room so I thought it might be a good time to start thinking about it.

Also, I keep on reading about the right/left pre-amp outputs... Would I be better off using these, single output or re-wire front speakers to the sub?

Thanks in advance!

If it sounds good to you then I wouldn't mess with it. It is just an alternate way to hook up the system. Polk tends to recommend hooking up the left and right speakers outs through the subwoofer speaker level line ins (as opposed to using a subwoofer RCA type cable and connecting to the subs RCA inputs) and then running speaker wire from the sub's speaker level line outs to the speakers. Then you set the front speakers as "Large" on your receiver and choose "subwoofer none"...thus ensuring that the sub is getting all of the bass output. I've tried it both ways with HK and and other receivers and find that either way will work.

    Welcome to the forum!

Oh, and the preamp outputs are for hooking up external amps, not for direct speaker hookup. Don't worry about them...for now. Once you get "upgradeitis" like most of us here you will learn all about preamp outputs and external amplification!

They're referring to receivers that don't have or have limited bass management capabilities. In this case you can use the sub's internal crossover to set cut-off freqs. The 235 has plenty of bass management so instead, you can use the 235's internal crossover to configure what you want to send to the sub and others.
