would a 3220 or 2220 b&k amp be a good match with a yamaha 2500?
If so what would a fair price be?(9 out of 10)

yamaha 2500-lsi9-lsic-lsi7.

Thanks to all and your input is always appreciated.

p.s. I have been reading alot of back threads and learning alot. Love the polk club. It is one of the reason I went with the lsi set-up.

Don't believe I've come across any of your posts before, so WELCOME!! Sounds like you're wanting to put together a nice system. I personally don't know about matching a B&K amp with a Yammy 2500 as the pre. Do you already own the Yammy or are you just speculating at the moment? If you haven't bought anything yet, I'd really look at something a little nice for the pre.

yes, I have the yamaha. With the 9's it gets a little hot. I thought when I bought the yammy it would do(also the saleman at tweeter said it would have no problems) but now I see it needs help. If I had done a little more reading I probably would have went with a different pre. I picked up the 7's while I was looking for a amp. Darn e-bay. But know I can tell I really need a amp.

    audiobliss, let me ask this.

If I could return the yammy, which way would I look. Nad, b&k. I would have about $2k. I am very new at this stuff and thought the yamaha was about the best. The more I read the more I find myself 2nd guessing. I am 50/50 music/ht.

There is nothing wrong with the RXV-2500. I use the RXV-1500 as a pre/pro, and find it sounds just as good as my old dedicated pre-amps. I would reccommend a seperate amp for at least the front channels.

yes, you are right. I will keep yammy. I will stop 2nd quessing myself. I will find a 2-3-5 channel amp. I will be happy.

    for now..

B&K make awesome amps for the money. I recommend going the multi-channel amp route and then eventually moving on to a better dedicated preamp. That will give you the more immediate sonic benefit while leaving room for upgrades in the future.

That sounds like a good idea. If you could take back the Yammy and have enough money for a pre and some B&K amps, I'd do that. However, if you can only afford one step at a time, the RX-V2500 will do a fine job as a pre.

The only thing I don't like about my Yammy is that I know I could have done better with my money. I have found no faults with it. There's nothing I can point to and say I don't like. I just know, now, that I could have done better.

So, if you keep it and get a B&K amp, you'll be doing just fine.

Paid $525 for my RXV-1500. I couldn't touch any pre/pro for anywhere near that price that had as many features. Plus it saved buying another amp for the rear surrounds, and it easily powers those. And the auto calibration is excellent, makes setup so much easier.

 Wow. I'd say that was a good price. When I bought my RX-V1400, it was $800. However, it was on sale: for $700.

I still think I could have done much better. Oh well, I'm not complaining. Like I said, I find no faults with the unit itself.

I paid $825 new for the yammy at the local video store. They only offer an upgade before 30 days policy. I am trying to by a b&k 2220 for $550. The guy said he has a local looking at it and will let me know. I dont know if I could have done better on a pre for that money. What do you think about a 2 ch. amp and let yammie handle the rest?

That's how I am currently running mine, works fine.

The only reservation I would have about your setup, is all the speakers are 4ohms. Most recievers don't like 4ohms. My Yamaha runs hot just running three 8ohm speakers, I solved that by mounting a small 60mm fan behind it in the rack, it's a 12 volt fan, but I am only feeding it 6 volts, so you can't even hear it. The Yamaha stays cold to the touch.

I believe with the 2500, somewhere in the setup menu you can set the internal fan to run all the time, I would at least do that.

The 2500 has an internal fan? Cool. The 1400 doesn't have one, does? I haven't heard it/about it/read about it.

I don't know if the 1400 does, but the 1500 and 2500 do. On my 1500, there are no user settings, and it only came on when the unit was warmer than I am comfortable with. So I added my own.

You can even get better sound quality by powering at least the 3 front channels, I know my system sounds alot better powering 5 channels and my 5790 does not even get warm and I like playing my system loud.
