Does that mean SACD? Is it only SACD? Or redbook, too?

Superbit = special line of DVDs with better video and audio. They strip the extras out to lessen the blow of compressing everything to a pulp.

I bought my first SUPERBIT movie at Walmart for $5 a week ago. PANIC ROOM.

I was always skeptical about the SUPERBITS- but I and even my roommate could tell a difference in video- and he's not into home theater stuff.

Now that i've finally seen one, I wish all DVDS were SUPERBITS- considering the video is better up to a point and most important is the fact that they all have DTS soundtracks as standard.

Regarding extras, a 2nd disc could be included in the package to take care of that- and it prob. wouldn't cost any extra.

What is the difference between DTS, DX, Dolby Digital and all the others. I know what Pro Logic, basically a digital version of the old 2.0 systems with mono surround channels but whats the difference between the others?

    here MacLeod. IMO-

For 5.1 master encoding- DTS > Dolby Digital
For "6.1" master encoding- DTS-ES > Dolby EX.
    For "7.1" Post-Processing (upconverting analog 2.0 or digital 5.1 into "7.1")-
Dolby Prologic IIx (movies) & Lexicon's Logic7 (music) > Anything Else

IMO Dolby PROLOGIC IIx is a wonderful thing. Unlike any of the others I have mentioned, DPLIIx can piggyback any competing audio format (even DTS); & turn it into uniform 7.1 audio; regardless if it's in the analog or digital domain!

What it boils down to is that IMO DTS encoding is superior, but Dolby's Post-Processing rules! :)

Thanks danger boy for the heads up. I purchased Underworld and Blackhawk Down for $9.99. The video and audio in Underworld is definitely superior..not so sure about Blackhawk though. At least that I can tell.

BTW...if anyone is interested, these are all on sale until mid December. You can go to the Bestbuy.com sight and order there if you wish.

ALL superbits are on sale. I must admit I bought $100 worth.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but just a reminder that this sale ends at the end of December, so if there are any Superbit titles you were still wanting to get, now's the time to do it and still get in on the $9.99 price.

I found that my local store did NOT stock all of the titles (Tommy, Lawrence of Arabia for example) but this price is good at BestBuy.Com too:
