you can buy Adcom for $200 on ebay. if you look hard enough.
I got my 2ch. 5300 for $175 and my 5ch. 7300 for $225.
Just Better amps out there for the $ imo. -
IMO this amp isnt in the league of the lower end onkyo receivers.. They can't be bought at CC or BB and are a nice build amp.. however your right, their are other amps in this price bracket that might be better.. the options are almost limitless of the amps in the 200 price range... adcom is on par with this onk, one in the flea market for 100 shipped..MY HT RIG:

how much are those Onkyo amps again? Weren't they like $300 new? -
I retail the 282 for $230 brand new. Personally, I wouldn't even consider this amp unless it's just to run a set of outdoor/in ceiling/in wall speakers that you want for background music and couldn't give a **** less about the sound quality. The thing has no nuts what-so-ever and can't even handle 6 ohms, let alone 4.
For the money, shop ebay/audiogon for a better amp (like an older Adcom/Rotel etc).Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
I think Onk's power amp glory days are long gone. Get yourself a older Onk (M-504, 506) and you won't look back. That 282 is the only power amp currently offered by Onkyo. Dollars to donuts they don't manufacture power amps in two years time. Onk turned a corner a few years back, and have gone from a performance oriented company, to a feature oriented company. Sad but true. I agree with Toxis that if you do decide to purchase one, you'd better be driving 8 ohms with it.
