Cheap Cable/Sub Placement

Hey Guys,
CLIFNOTES @ Bottom...
I have just moved into the dorm with my beloved R system set up...no complaints yet! except one...but that was a mistake and they mis filed it and it was against my techno loving suitemates...but all is well.
Anyway currently the sub is hooked up right behind the right R50 with a nice block of concrete under it (from the DIY forums/pics when I finish my spanish hwk....or eventually)
My question is....if I move the sub to behind my futon will I be able to "feel" the bass more and hear the quality as well? Omnidirectional is what I hear a lot but I feel that once it's within 3-4 ft anywhere around you I believe you can tell where it's coming from....
I would love to test sub placement with a long cable but I don't have one...
any cheap cables for my sub? Blue jeans is in the 30-40's for my length of 25-30 ft...that is way too much for me now (car/college loan taking a hit)....
Cliffnotes: Sub 3-4 ft away from you...tell where it's coming from?
Behind Futon next to wall...6 feet away from nearest corner...feel the bass a lot better than 12 feet away(for movies)
Cheap decent Sub cable- Running 25-30 ft under or around $15?
Thanks,
Chris
Questions are welcome...

Hi Chris,
Testing different locations for subwoofer placement is certainly worth the time and effort involved. In my living room before finding a permanent location it was tested in 4 different places and it sure sounds good now.Denon #2900, Denon stereo receiver, Conrad Johnson Sonographe 120 amp, Blue Jeans cables, and Klipsch RF-7's
