Well we did it, we finally got our new truck.
We went for the GMC 2500HD 4x4 crew cab SLT Duramax Diesel.
GM gave us the employee pricing on a 2006 so there was no haggeling over the price.
This thing is sweeeeeeeeeet. I have to get it broke in before I can really play with it but it has pounds of power.
And as an added bonus (and I know you all can appreciate this) it has Bose Speakers with a Subwoffer in the console.
XM radio, 6 disc in dash changer, onstar, HD tow package and allmost every bell and whistel we wanted.
Lots of thanks to ND13 for giving me sound information on how to deal with the dealers. This was a smooth transaction.
If any of you are considering a new vehicle I can say from experience this employee discount is a great offer to take advantage of.
I am going to get rid of my celebratory hangover and go get my drive on so lets see if the pics come up.

Holy ****! Youd better get out there quick! Theres some homeless dude crawling thru the window!
Once you clear out the squatters youll have one hell of a nice truck. I think the Ford is a little heavier duty but the Chevy is the most comfy and would be my choice to take on a long trip. Plus, that Duramax will more than handle anything youll ever throw at it without so much as a whimper.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Good job Skyler. That's a good color, also. Very easy to keep and it won't show the flaws like a darker color will. Enjoy.

nice lookin truck, i just picked up a 2k4 gmc half ton(with the 4.8:() last thursday.

Im glad you picked the GMC, you wont be disappointed. As far as putting audio in that truck, youre most likely going to have to replace everything at once. Its hard enough to put just the radio in with just the base stereo.

exalted512 I saw your truck in an earlier thread, these are real nice trucks.
The interior is beautiful and it feels almost like a car when you drive.
The diesel is real quiet, unlike the Fords we drove that sounded like a diesel inside and out.
The power is definately there but I can't use it till I get it broke in properly.
The on board computer tells me I am getting an average of 16-17 mpg so far.
The XM radio, wow. I really did not want this feature but it came with the truck
I didn't want it because I knew I would like it. I was right. I don't know how much it will cost to subscribe but when I do I will probably get it for the house also.
And for the Bose sound system. Wow..... how much is it going to cost to replace?
The sub is allright and the sound is not bad till you try to crank it up. At higher volumes it really looses its spaciousness. the mids and highs seem to merge into one distorted mess.
At normal levels it sounds pretty good.
There is one speaker per door and they look like around 5" each and there is a tweeter in each of the front window posts that face the windshield. I can not tell how much sound they put out so far but when I "get a round 2 it" I will probably replace them with the door speakers.
Don't know about the sub yet. Someone probably makes a whole replacement set that I can buy at the same time although, thet will be some time in the future.
The 6 disc indash is a pretty cool feature and I think I actually like the indash portion of the system. I just feed in discs one at a time and listen, I guess. I say I guess because I am spending all my time so far listening to XM. (damn that XM)
The XM will drop out if you park to close to a building or go through a tunnel, under a long overpass or bridge but other than that it is constant signal.
Don''t let them fool you with that "comercial free" B.S., the stations I listen to so far have had comercials. Not alot but they are there and I am sure more are to come. The paperwork they gave me lists the stations like cable t.v. does and it says they have 65 comercial free stations. 65 out of 150? hardly comercial free.
Anyhows I have gone on long enough for now, will write again soon, for now it is time for food.Skynut

Glad you like it! Yeah, replace that system as soon as ya can. Cody can tell ya much more accurately what it'll take.
I really like the XM radios, not for XM, but because they give you the name of the song and artist - for regular FM stations!!!! I love that!George Grand wrote: »

all the music stations are commercial free. the only thing you will hear is the station promoting itself.
If you really want to replace it, you will have to replace everything and you will have to run new speaker wire. Go to your local shop or circuit city and ask for the 70-2003 kit. They will try to sell you the $90 GMRC-01. You can get it but it is semi-unreliable. What it does is keeps your door chimes. If you dont have an information center then yea, I would probably get it as your information will come through the radio.
For your radio, I would go with Pioneer, moreover, the Premier line. Speakers, Polk of course. Ranging from the db, to momo, to the new signature reference. If you get coaxials, you wont need an amp. If you get components, then youll need an amp. For a solid amp, i recommend hifonics from onlinecarstereo.com. You can get amp kits with quality stuff from www.knukonceptz.com. Best power around for the best price around. I'd get my speaker wire from sounddomain.com.
ProBoxrocks.com will have boxes that go behind your back seat for a couple 10s i believe. Thatll run about $120-160. You might or might not be able to use polk's db series subs. That depends on the mounting depth, which isnt much with that box. With Bose, you cant really do stuff in steps. The speakers are 2 ohm which could end up frying your aftermarket head unit so you'd at least have to get the speakers with the radio. If you run them off the aftermarket radio, youll have to cut the green, white, purple and gray wires (those are the speaker wires) and put new wire from there on to the speakers. you cannot have those wires going through the harness because then itll go through the factory amp which isnt a good thing.
bose is teh suck, whether it be home or car audio.

I do not want to loose the steering wheel controls.
I can't just get new speakers?
I would need 2 ohm?
It is all a long way off, for now I have to recover from the huge purchase I have made and get the stuff we need first.Skynut

you might be able to keep your steering wheel controls, i would email metra and find out if they make a harness for that. it basically depends on that.
If you got new speakers, they would be playing at half the volume. Yes, you would need 2 ohms, the best place to look for those would be partsexpress.com as i know of only one company that makes 2 ohm speakers, and thats image dynamics, but their components and theyre not going to sound that great off of your stock amp.
