I'm at work!!! so it's not so quite for me... anyways... nice equipment...<|>

The surround on that PSW404 is absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen a pic of it before that shows how deep/big it is. No need for anything like that.

Quiet Sunday morning.....
Just recently had the opportunity to play with an HK 635 at C.C. and it sounds like it could be mighty powerful, it at least weighs a ton compared to a much smaller HK sitting nearby.
Also the volume control knob design of the HK looks and feels very nice.Denon #2900, Denon stereo receiver, Conrad Johnson Sonographe 120 amp, Blue Jeans cables, and Klipsch RF-7's -
In theory, couldnt that PSW series with the Hi-Roll surrounds move around 3-4" - that is, if the motor, spider, etc all allowed for it...
Man that would make for a monsterous subwoofer...
But it looks like it sacrifices ALOT of cone area...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
3-4", no way. The surround "might" allow for it, but I bet that woofer has an xmax of no more than 10mm, which would equate to a total of 1" peak-to-peak excursion.

Thats what I mean...
If the motor/spider, etc would allow for it - that could be a monsterous subwoofer...
But it looks like a big ball of marketing...
A 1" surround is probally all it would need (if that) - sacrificed alot of cone surface area it seems...
Hmmmmmm- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Got me thinking, so I went to measure the cone (not including the black ring that covers the screws)....from the outer edge to outer edge of the foam surround, the diameter is 9". From inner edge to inner edge of the foam surround, it's only 5 3/4"...Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

Good lord...
That is like having a midbass with a huge surround giving out bass...
I wonder how much that thing actually moves...
We need a Polk engineer to comment here!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I had a 404 and blew it, and im easy on speakers/gear... It is stiff as heck. the woofer doesnt move at all. Im sure it does in reality but to push on it its stiff, and it would be years and years before that thing loosened up if it did. after that i got an svs, I liked the 404 but the surround seemed not functional as it should be.MY HT RIG:

Well, I recall when I was at the Polk at HQ...
They said the Hi-Roll surround was incredibly hard to form, which is why they had to use foam. I imagine they have to use alot of whatever it takes to form those things to get them to shape and all that. Although I can see their purpose - especially if it is an incredibly high excursion woofer. The 12-15-18" Tumult feature a surround that size, but they really do move 3-4"...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
