problems with setting up a remote desktop connection / terminal services client

Well today I tried setting up a remote desktop connection (formerly called a terminal services client) and havn't had much luck in getting it working. I followed a tutorial online (linked here) and managed to get to the point where I can get to the remote desktop web connection site. When I click connect I get this message:
"The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator."
I'm not quite sure where to go from here to get this working other than to go over it again and make absolutly sure I did everything correctly.
Any input would be great as I'm a little lost and would really like to get this up and running.
Thanks,
Michael

OK I figured it out and I can say that even though it was a pain in the **** to set up it is FREAKIN SWEET!! Now I can control my computer in my room through my pocket pc from any hotspot or from any computer that has internet access.
The only thing I overlooked when trying to set it up this time was that I forgot to open one port on my router. Since I have a few firewalls I lost track and missed one but it's working just dandy now. -
Try establishing remote desktop connection using various remote support tools such as logmeinrescue, gosupportnow, GoToMyPC etc. and check whether it works or no.

It is a great (and IMO underused) feature of Windows. I have a PC running Win Media Player dedicated to one source of my Russound whole house audio system. I do have a Streamzap remote attached, and the Russound system will do IR remote command mimicing from each zone's keypad. However, the commands are limited to play, pause, skip, etc. and RDC gives me the ability to access the PC from any other PC on my network, including a netbook that I use wirelessly. Just have to rememebr to enable audio from controlled PC or the music plays on the netbook, not the music PC. Works great!
I'm investigating an Android app that will give me similar control - just haven't found it yet.My 7.4.4 DIY 4k Home Theater:
