Did you buy a pair? I see there's 2 left out of 4. Good luck!

Not yet, Those would bring new life to a vintage Polk. Maybe one of us with a blown one could put it to best use. Right now I've speakers running out of every **** I've got.>

I think Polk put the hole in the ones they sold. I've got a set out of RTA12B's that don't have a hole.>

Correct, Polk did make the 'hole', by hand acutally - with the tip of a hot soldering iron. Beleive it. Don't drink any coffee that morning, maybe you can too.
Those are (early versions of the) Peerless 810665, for all intents and purposes the same tweeter. They last sold for $28 each through Madisound and Parts Express before they went OOP, about 18 months-2yrs ago.

Interesting. Do you know why Polk put a hole in them? Seems like it would allow dust into the voice coil.
-
A lot of DIY full-range designs still do it. Yes, techincally the dustcap is just that, a dust cap. Truth is, very little, if any dust gets in - certainly not enough to make a 1-inch voice coil rub - and it 'extends' the high frequency response (to varying degrees, depending on driver in question), and adds a touch of airiness, a little more expansion in the top end soundstage, by breaking up (very slightly) the HF waves from not having a 'perfect' convex dome.
That, and I'm sure Polk just wanted to be different too, have their 'mark', if you will. This tweeter (and many other similar designs) was used frequently in the 70's and 80's, for no other reason than it simply sounded good. Braun, A/D/S, even Phillips made a similar dome.
I think everyone ran with what Phase Technology had recently invented, the first soft-dome tweeter.

Nah. I've just had the honor of spending time with some audio old timer's.
If an old school guy talks, pull up a chair and listen. Just passing on what I've been told.
