Hum

I have a hum problem, I know this question has been asked alot. Its not cable, I dont have that in my theater, just dvd player for movies. The hum comes through the spks for a while even with the pre-amp & amps shut off, the humming stops only when you unplug the amps. I installed a surge suppressor that is a 20 amp outlet, both ati amps are pluged into that surge outlet, could that be the cause? thanks
My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

    try a cheater plug on your equipment one at a time. This might pin point the gear that is causing the hum. Maybe all stuf might need a cheater plug. They worked great for me, hum is now 100% gone.

    Could be a ground loop issue. a cheap check/fix is a "cheater" which is a plug that accepts a three prong grounded plug but then has only 2 prongs to go into the outlet. This removes the ground from each component that uses the plug separating it from the others. If it is indeed a ground loop this would correct the problem.

    Thanks, my 2 amps have that funky 20 amp prongs, I have checked everything else, I think its the amps. Do they make a cheater plug with that funky plug?

    Would grounding the amps to the outlet help, using a wire & attach it to a screw on the frame of the amp?
