Hello,
Definately a very good movie. Hard to describe, it helps if you're into Hong Kong kung fu movies, but well worth the effort. Some pretty good audio, as well. They used a full Chinese classical orchestra for the film music, quite nice!

The Chinese orchestra in question is the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO), which has been recording directly to DSD for releases on SACD (four SACDs so far). See some photo's from HKCO's website on "Kung Fu Hustle"....

Thanks Danny! In this movie the orchestra is a "special effect". Without giving away the plot, there's a musical insrtrument used as a weapon and the necessary sound could only come from a serious group of musicians. I kept thinking, when watching the movie, that Louis Armstrong called bebop "Chinese music" (he wasn't a fan of the "new thing"). If he were alive, I would have liked to say, "Here ya go, Pops, Chinese music is pretty good, ain't it?". Another example of how everything, in the world, is only separated by six degrees of contact.

I liked the Untouchables joke when the dying kung fu fighter lunges up and gasps out "whaaat ..are you..Going...to do!"

Ah, good, I didn't pick that one up.
There seemed to be lots of Matrix spoofing, too.

    From the Associated Presss....
Hong Kong actor/director Stephen Chow told the Associated Press he'll start filming the sequel to his action film Kung Fu Hustle either late this year or early 2006.

Chow called the movie's $17.1 million box office take in North America "not bad," but said, "I hope I can do better in the future."

Chow said casting for the sequel hasn't been finalized and that he hasn't settled on a female lead.

"There will be a lot of new characters in the movie. We'll need a lot of new actors. It's possible that we'll look for people abroad besides casting locals," he added.

The first movie, a collaboration with Columbia Pictures, became the biggest grossing local film in Hong Kong ever.

Kung Fu Hustle was number 1 in dvd sales last week so success wise he should do even better next time round.

Loved the cult classic Shaolin Soccer too. :)
