Comes to dvd on Tuesday and looks like a fun ride. I'm considering a blind purchase but wondering if anyone has comments.
If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

If you like mindless adventures, ala "National Treasure" or the "Tomb Raider" series, you'd like this. The book is vastly superior, but you already knew that. It has the possibility of having some GREAT sound...
The downside of the movie is that it is based on a terribly complex plot/book and with the editing, pieces got thrown out so it can seem a bit disjointed at times.
I'll be buying it...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I liked it. I've read all(around 20) but the latest Clive Cussler books and Sahara has been one of my favorites.
I thought Matthew M(I'm not even going to try the last name) fit in very well for Dirk Pitt. Giordino on the other hand could have used a different actor as far as size goes. His attitude was fine, but I always pictured him as a very short, stocky person(as described in the books).
Overall, I was satisfied with the movie, even with the plot problems. I'll be buying it as well.

Yup, Giordinio should have been a Sly Stallone looking guy. Everyone else was cast well. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I must have blacked out this summer. Didn't even know this one had been in the theaters around here.

Yeah, Stalone was the first to come to my mind as well. Agree that the casting was good for the rest of them.Tschüss

It came out in March or April. It kind of got overshadowed by the upcoming EpIII, BM(Batman, not bowel movement), WoTW, etc... Therefore advertising wasn't placed on the top of the list.Tschüss

Buy it now, if you like action/comedy type movies. I had no expectations of the movie (theatre or books) and really enjoyed it.

I did buy it blindly and wished I had rented. It's good but there's just not enough action or story to carry this film for 2 hours (it felt like 3). If it was edited down by 30 minutes and the story a bit more organized it could have been better, much better.If...

Rental for me ... was ok , nothing too great or bad about it . I've read all of the Dirk Pitt novels and was really disappointed in the way this movie butchered 'em. I've read that the author (Clive Cussler) was very pissed when he saw the film. -
funny how it came in for me through blockbuster.com today...
