I've heard stories about how all of them except for John Paul Jones sold their soul for rock 'n roll, and bad things have happened to all of them except for JPJ (Page's bad health, Plant's son dieing, Bonham himself dieing so young, etc.), but I don't know if I believe it or not.

Page did buy Allister Crowley's castle though at one point.

That's so old hat, out of the 'God of Rock' 80's.

Check out some Judas Preist and Ozzy backward masking too.

On that note, I'm going to kill myself now. I'm going downstairs to the hotel bar, and shoot myself in the head with a flare gun.

    Cheers,

Not nearly as good as when you've got the vinyl at hand to spin backwards. Crazy stuff there. I've had lots of nights, when I was younger, listening to that backwards. There's more than whats on that site, in the song. Cooincidence, maybe. But there's a lot of it.
There was a guy who could sing backwards so well he did videos of it. He was singing forwards, while everything around him was moving backwards. Riding a bike and whatnot. Twas' neat. It was on America's Funniest Home videos I think.

I remember before there were explicit lyrics warning stickers, there were "may contain backwards messages" warning stickers, at the height of the craze. That was many moons ago.

I had this on vinyl and it actually said "decide to try marijuana". I spun it backwards a few hundred times and that's what I heard everytime.

First of all, Crowley wasn't necessarily a Satan worshipper in the evil sense. He was all about mystical spiritualism and ritual, and was very anti-Christian to the point that his life's mission was to subvert the Christian religion as much as possible as he viewed it as evil and destructive. This is not, in my aetheist mind, a cosmic justification for being damned or enduring tragedy. Those who would follow his teachings, for whatever reasons, would equally not be susceptable to bad tidings.

Yes, Robert Plant was in a horrible car accident and lost a son. How many of us have lost people, or know those who have lost people? Did we make deals with the Devil?

Jimmy Page was always sickly, even as a young child, and this was further agitated by his heavy drug use. I would hazard to say he may be in the best health of his life in his early 60's, as he no longer looks sickly and thin.

John Bonham died young because he partied harder than any man should, and finally paid for a life of brutal behavior and ridiculously heavy drinking.

All of these people had tremendous talent, and needed no deals with Satan to achieve it. These men are actually lucky to be alive and rich today, as many who lead such lives of extravagance place themselves in dangerous or unhealthy situations a lot more often than "average" people do.

People who start such stories are just jealous and envious of the rich and talented, and need to justify their lesser existence with stories like that to keep from shining a light on the fear and laziness that keeps them from pursuing their own dreams.

Of course the whole thing is silly, but I felt the need to be logical and practical about this, and maybe lend a bit of perspective to the whole thing.

And what if whoever had a hand in starting such stories were arguably more talanted and definitely much richer than the members of Zep?

ever since rock & roll was born, there's been the 'holier-than-thou- dreks claiming it's the devil's music...they claimed such music would lead to promiscuity and teen pregnancy...R&R responsible? maybe :p
i think alot of the 'backwards messages' that are alledgedly recorded are the musicians and engineers having a little fun with the whole conspiracy.
i think on 'the wall' listeners, while playing their records backwards, were congratulated for 'figuring out the secret message'. or something to that effect.

A while back, I flipped on the radio and heard the most horrible cover of a Led Zepplin song I've ever heard. The band was weak, and the singing was as entertaining as an IRS audit or a root canal, I couldn't decide. It was the most atrocious cover ever..to say the least. Then the announcer came on saying "And that was Led Zepplin performing......live"

Not hardly! This dude had at least as many or more than Zep!

I'm talking about none other than Elvis. I've heard that he was among the very first to start spreading that story about them around, and even asked them about it when they met him in Vegas. Obviously I don't know that though, just heard it. I've also heard he was extremely resentful and jealous of the Beatles too.

When he met the members of Zep, supposedly Plant even started singing (in his best Elvis voice) that song, I don't know the name of it, but it goes "treat me like a fool, treat me sad and cruel..."

Speaking of which, how many are familar with Dred Zeppelin, a Jamaican raggae band with an Elvis impersonator for a lead singer that plays Led Zep cover tunes in a raggae beat with a pinch of Elvis songs thrown in the middle chorus of them like Heartbreaker/Heartbreak Horel, Black Dog/Hound Dog, etc.?

Personally, I believe the Satanic rumors are nothing more than that rumors. IOW, ****. If you listen to the backwards recording linked here in this thread to STH, it sounds to me like they are slowing down and speeding up the tempo the song is played backwards at, and I don't know, but it also sounds to me like they spliced and edited different parts of it together to come up with what they did.

Hell, if someone really wanted to and spent the time required to do it, they could probably make just about any song played backwards say whatever the hell they wanted it to.

I thought that all this closed-minded **** went away after the 80s, but i guess that the fanatics just have to keep trying to demonize R&R.
