The Jazz Crusaders are NOT smooth jazz. At least they weren't 30 years ago. Stix Hooper? Wilton Felder? Smooth jazz? Uh-Uh. You got their stuff with "Way Back Home" and "So Far Away"? The album had a pink cover. I have it someplace here. Great ****.
In 1975, I was living with Crazy DeeDee the Body Goddess. She came home one day with that first Bob James album, "Feel Like Making Love". I knew it was the beginning of the end for us right then and there.

I think I messed up on the title of that first BJ album. I think it was called "ONE" and had "Feel Like Making Love" on it, as well as "A Night on Bald Mountain" which was quasi-credible (to me).
Get Maiden Voyage by Hancock and those first two Tom Scott & The L.A. Express albums. "Big Swing Face" by Buddy Rich wouldn't hurt either.
