I purchased the first component of my new car system today..a C400.4..!!

Got a 10" momo sub free..!!

tomorrow...speaks..!!

I`m hoping that I can get another 10" sub free if I wait a day or two for my C500.2....

I realize this is a polk website, and I just told on myself.. , but I own soooo many polk speakers that I feel this is justified.. :o;)

The only non polk speaker that I have owned in twenty years is my SVS....

are ya listening Matt..?!!

My new (new to me) BMW will have all Polk Momo stuff...with an Alpine head unit...

WOOO hhhooooooo...!!...ya man...gotta love it.. :D

I didn't have a cap in my '99, but I did in my '02, never noticed any problems.

Ya dont need a cap. A good alternator and battery combo can handle pretty much any of your needs.

    What about the computer ?

It won`t mess with it if the altenator is a good one ?

If youre running a good battery and a good alternator then your current draw will never be enough to cause the computer to have a hissy fit.

Im running 700 watts +/- and stock 3 year old battery and stock alternator and have no dimming or current problems at all.

If youre going to run 2000 watts overall or the like then youd want a bigger alternator/battery combo but I believe you never need a cap.

a cap serves no purpose unless you are trying to stiffen a few volts. if you're current draw is at or near the output of your alternator, then a couple of caps will help / solve that. if your current draw is well over your alternator's rated output - then forget about it - you need more batteries and/or a bigger alt. if your current draw is below your alt's rating - then you dont need anything.

however, i find a nice 900 - 1000 CCA battery is nice for the drive in or any other time you want to play the system for long periods of time with the key off.

Ive heard, more than once, that its the reserve capacity that is the true measure of how good a battery is suited to car audio.

it also has to do with the esr, basically how fast it can discharge that power

a 500 CCA battery with fantastic amp hours (reserve capacity) will do nothing for a high power system. CCA's a measure of instantaneous draw - basically what cody said when he mentioned "ESR" (electro static resistance). but they're somewhat independant factors - put them together though, and a battery with good reserve capacity and low ESR with typically be of the high cranking amp family ... while Optima Yellow's are nice for draining over long periods of time, they are not what'd I'd want cranking my truck in the dead of winter... at 750 CCA it's not enough in my opinion.
