    That is SOME receiver.

25 years later and I'm still kicking myself for letting my 30 watt Marantz receiver go.

Just THINK of the entire system that you could put together with that kind of money, and the lunacy of paying that kind of money for a receiver starts to really reveal itself. You could start with a pair of used Carver Amazings, a really nice amp or two to drive them with, maybe a preamp also, and money left over for popcorn or roller skates. Or a gross of bottle rockets. Maybe even a hooker to sit down and listen with you.

George alway has a way with putting life into perspective, doesn't he. I can see that his priorities are set straight and he only wants to protect us from scams and allow us to partake in the finer things he see life has to offer. ;)

    Good on ya, GG.

SO EFFIN TRUE!!!! With $3700, I could put together an extremely nice, "all tube even", 2 channel system that would kick **** and yes, still have some change left over for some "extracurricular" activities for sure. ;):D

The fact remains, though, that "that" Marantz is still a freakin "BEAST".

Hey GG, you'd think that after as many times you have typed your name at the bottom of your post, you'd spell it right  ;):D . Just a little ball busting from one AF vet to an active AF man. :)

those big-daddy marantz have a specific type of transformer (toroidial?) when it goes, yer f----ed..it also tends to take other stuff with it.. just the high example of the audio world's 'receiver horsepower wars'..kinda like 1970 in the auto industry...i'll stick with my 2270, thank you ;)

Another fine example of Marantz's glory days. I'd rather spend the $400-600 for a nice example of that 2270 and use the left over $3100-3300 on the rest of the system. :)

3,700 and you STILL have a receiver......

Different strokes for left handed people, I guess.

I don't have anywhere CLOSE to 3,700 in either of my rigs.

yep,, pioneer & marantz were in a heated battle of who could make the most powerful rcvr...all about power ratings..again, much like the horsepower wars of the late 50s thru 1970...

someone mentioned the 2600 as a high point for marantz....not quite...marantz was purchased by another company around 1976...the rcvrs looked similar, but slowly incorporated less and less quality in the parts...the marantz 'golden age' started in the tube era and ended around '76...
