Since i'll soon be getting a tube pre, i've dug out of storage (actually display) my repaired and fully functional Scott LT 110...this is a great-sounding tuner! however, it needs a good cleaning...whats the best way to go about this job? i've seen some tuner cleaner destroy old components...this one i believe is from the early 60s. after it's all cleaned, i'll get a new faceplate and wood case. thanks!

CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It can work but be careful with old PC boards and chemicals. I recommend nothing more than blowing off the boards with canned air.
madmaxVinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -

i hear ya...but there seems to be some sort of grime under all the dust..under the grime, the chassis is shiny.. -
Just test a spot first. My first reciever back in the seventies was cleaned by me. Sprayed the stuff on, used a nice soft brush to gently loosen the grime, another little spray to remove the grime. OH NO! it is still sticky! Got a little more sticky stuff off and found it to be the PCB coming apart. Well, I let it dry and it looked nasty. Worst part is it wouldn't work when I tried it. Oh well...

scary! the reason i posted this question, i have a scott rcvr i purchased in '83, the last of the heavywieghts. anyway, 1 day i opened it up and went to town with the cleaner..no board breaks, but the tuner no longer tunes  amp still rocks, tho.. maybe i'll just get the wood case for the tube tuner and forget it!

Hi SDAMike,
If you are looking for someone to work on your old receiver for you I would recommend Craig at nosvalves.com He works on retro gear and one of these days I would like to buy a nice old integrated or send him one that needs refurbished. My first order of business is to get a tube preamp to go with my S.S. amp just to see what tubes are all about.Denon #2900, Denon stereo receiver, Conrad Johnson Sonographe 120 amp, Blue Jeans cables, and Klipsch RF-7's -
