a friend of mine bought a 61" Mitsubishi DLP TV. Nice TV, anyway he says he thinks he should have sound to go with it. the budget was light (since he just spent all his money on the TV. choices were to go with a cheapie home theater in the box, or go with 2 channel. I had an Onkyo p-301 pre and an M-501 amp (the ones I was selling in the flea market). I had to tell him the 2 channel would assumedly blow the doors of a rinky dink HTIB
So I hacked my asking price and gave him the Onk components with my prized RTA-12B's. Hooked em up in his apartment with the TV and spun some Movies. Man, I forgot how good this set up sounds. In his small to med sized Livingroom, the sound was quite good, surprisingly good. Definitly better that small HTIB's for movies, and of course music reproduction superiority goes without saying.

We'll be watching Sin City on the DLP on theis 2 channel setup tonight, expecting sweet results.

My boy's thrilled with the set up, and I think he is going to catch the bug FAST!!!

He sure won't, as I know from personal experience ;)
2.1 all the way here, and loving it(with SDAs of course)

I can't believe you gave up your RTA-12Bs, those are like mint aren't they???

I guess it's good to be on good terms with ya', huh? ;)
He'll/you'll be blown away by Sin City on a nice rig. :)

That's real cool of you to let those go to a friend. I just hope that you have the right of first refusal on the 12Bs, when he decides to go on to the SDAs :p:D

the rta 12b's i had were very functional, crossovers and drivers were top notch, but the cabs were a bit rough. thats the way they were when i got them. I sold him the pre, amp and speaks for 2 bills (much less than what i was selling them for). the room he is in is a little too small for SDA's, but who knows. If a pair of CRS's pop up and he is in the mood to upgrade, well see. I love the RTA's, as i said, I almost forgot how good they sound. That peerless silk tweet remains my favorite of the vintage polks (the new replacements for the sl2000's come really really close though). It was a good feeling hooking the kid up, and I think I might have hooked another addict down the road :)

Did you get a contract saying if he becomes a dumbass down the road, you get the speakers back? :)

I wish more people had the common sense to buy good two-channel instead of a "crap-in-a-box."

I've been friends with the guy for some time, for like 13 years. Hasnt betrayed my friendship yet, and wont start, hence, I felt safe leaving out the Dumbass clause of the contract :)
he has allready heard from one guy "why not get the Dolby Digital for that same price?" blah blah. Ignorance man, just ignorance.

I also just reworked my HT with a pair of SDA 2B's I acquired from Hoosier. Let me tell you going from RTA15's to the SDA2B is a huge improvement plus the Oak 2B's are simly geougeous.

The other change I made was the addition of an older Rotel external DD DAC and the accompanied prologic preamp. WOW is all I can say. The only real non issue for me is that the Rotel does not handle DTS but that is just fine for me with the SDA's and direct from the Denon 2900 the soundstage is tremendous.

Currently the Marantz 8 is powering my 2B's and unfortunatly my NAK STASIS PA7 is munching fuses. Since I only had these two common ground amps my 2 channel is sitting idle at this time.

SDA's and HT are a sweet mix when accompanied with high res audio.

yup, i bought a pro-logic amp to go along with my early 70s marantz 2270..i have since disconnected the rears...i found them to distracting...the real stars are the sda2b's, anyway! :p ..now, i just use the pro logic amp for a little center detail, mainly voices...wife still doesn't understand why exactly i sit in the 'sweet spot'.. :p

LOL, I had the wife listen to the ELP this morning, and had her sit in the 2B's sweet spot, and she hasn't a clue. I told her that I wanted her to start listening to music with me again, like we used to do all the time. She said she'd love to, but I do it too late at night for her. :( . I told her we can listen to music anytime she likes :) .

What does the wife think of the Florida weather?

Let's move this discussion to PM so as to not derail this thread any further.
