Lomic - what you are suggesting is basically using TWO pres in the chain...one SS and one tube. What rt1 says is true...there is no true pass through and the SS pre section will have an effect.
The ELP is entry level. Sell it then, turn loose of the cash you made "sandbagging" the out of towners and get your butt a MLP with a volume remote. You know I Love NAD and still have and use their gear, but the Dodd ELP beats my ole NAD 1130 pre, yours is newer so I could see it doing a fine job or maybe your ears are clogged up with salt sweat.
The ELP IS a bargain at the price Gary sells it for...but I paid almost as much used for the NAD pre and NAD is considered to be high "bang for the buck" gear. I would expect them to be similar in quality with the bottom line being a persons preference. Both are good.
    Shack,

Look lazy boy :D , we can go four rounds, no water, kool laid, gatoraid, no nothing till the turns, as long as your buying and giving me two a hole. Used to walk that uphill bothways in the snow and ice, ever try to hit a ball uphill on ice. Had to pound a tee in the ground with a hammer. :p Oh yea and if your playing that much I am not buying your a nine, more like a 5, so maybe you give me three 1-5 HC holes, yea, that sounds good.

Humidity, hell you want humidity, Bring it here to Ga, man we got humidity that makes Dry Ice leak like a squashed sponge. Sears quit selling dehumidifiers cuz that wont work here.

Dont think Big Daddy can get around huh!! :D I see you smirking.
Come on up! Just be sure and bring cash...cause I don't take checks and I don't take credit cards...

Okay, I've been playing around with this for a week now and it just gets better and better. I'm still leaning towards the Bugle Boys, but the mismatched 7308s are beginning to creep up on them. I can't wait to run across a matched pair of 7308s to try out.

I have a matched set of 6DJ8 Groove Tubes on the way, I got them for $19.50 shipped and they are NIB. I guess I won't know their true sound for a while due to burn in, right??? Does anyone here have experience with those?

Man I can't wait to run across a bargain on a tube amp with no less than 30 -40 wpc (Class A). Those AMCs are awfully tempting, the ones with tube sockets that is. The little Onix is also. But the ASLs and Jolidas are still the ones that really tempt me. I am very open to suggestion, at this point, to alternatives, so throw 'em at me. I'm all ears/eyes, but will throw out some ?s, though.

I just ran accross the 'AMC Hybrid Vacuum Tube Amplifier' in one of my supplier catalogs. It's listed as Pure Class A hybrid vacuum tube and MOSFET amp design. 30 watts of high current class A power 13 1/2" W x 3 1/2" H x 9"D. Thats all the details. no mention of tube sockets or not. Model CVT-2030 at around cost $559.00 with a retail of $899.95 and CVT-3040 Integrated Amp. This is solid state and tubes for incredible sound - That's what it says!! All for about $100. more retail at $999.95.

The AMCs will have an (S) at the end of the model number if it has sockets for the tubes. I've seen them on Epay for $385 new without the sockets for the 2030 and $595 with the sockets. No doubt a lot of bang for the buck. I'm just not too sure about the Hybrid, yet. I know that alot of the Jolidas are hybrids and the people that have those seem to be very happy with them.
