Setting my crossover

I just set up a Dayton 150w 12" powered sub, it has a variable setpoint from 40hz to 160hz. I have 4 R50's for my HT setup and an HK DPR 2005 driving it. The specs for the R50 say Lower -3dB Limit 50Hz so what should I set the sub up for? If I turn the amp past -15db it is too loud for the room, not distorted just LOUD. Right now I have it at about 80 hz

Depends on what you listen to most. Movies or music.
80hz is easily localized considering the crossover frequency is a gradual roll off, which means it would extend into 90hz, if not higher. So 80hz is for movies, IE: What THX standards are.
For music, it really depends on you - some like it where their mains shut off, some like it a lil higher. I have mine set right around 60hz... probally should have it turned down more and crossed lower... but I'm looking for my sound, not perfection
Up to you man...play around with it.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I would agree, I have mine set at 80. It can be a touch weak for music in some cases. If so I just turn the gain up on the sub as needed.RTi10

For 2 ch mine is around 50 - 70 hz but ht I move it up a little to compensate for the crossover point on my receiver (100 hz at avr ). This is why I love having a remote for my sub.... much easier to fiddle with these things yet still remain in the sweet spot
