Sony ES cd player DAC'S vs. Harman Kardon receiver DACS? (Analog or Optical hookup?)

would a 1990 model Sony cdp209 es SINGLE disc model have higher quality DACS than my 2004 model Harman Kardon avr235 receiver? I'm asking because I'm confused on whether to use the digital optical connection or the 'fixed' analog connection. I thought the optical wire would let me use the Sony's DACS but instead it bypasses it and lets the receiver's DACS take over. (i don't know much about Digital to Analog Converters)

any help; thanks. Mark recommended I use Analog instead of optical but I didn't get his opinion on which component would have the better D/A Converters. Maybe he answered my question indirectly about the DACS and I was simply unaware of it?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm getting the player delivered to me tomorrow and just want to hook it up right the first time.
