My friend just got the B&K Reference 50 pre and 200.2 amp.

He's trying to set this up to the why he had his Onkyo set up. What he's wanting to do is to route his hard drive recorder from the ref 50 buy using the record out's. and be able to record something while watching another source.

He said his Onkyo 898 could do that.. now he wants his B&K 50 to do that same.

Anyone here know how to wire or set this up in the ref 50?

Any help is much appreciated. al

P.S. he loves everything else about his new B&K ref system.. he says it sounds amazing on digital sources like CD's, and DVD's. but the video switching is giving him a headache. The manual doesn't do a very good job of explaining any of it. Typical users manual.

hook it up to the zone b output and configure that output for fixed level audio. Note that it won't transcode digital-> L R outputs, so you'll need to have the analog L, R's hooked up for any source that you want to record. However, if your HD recorder has a digital in, there's a Zone B digital output. Optical & coaxial inputs are transcoded here, so if you have any digital input, it'll come out on the Zone B digital output.

Hope that helps- Oh, the fixed/variable level control is under the advance zone b menu, I think.... I actually ditched the ref 50 in my sig & I'm holding off on getting a new one until I upgrade my house, so all this is from memory. Everything I've said can also be done for the V2 output, as well.

edit: It also doesn't transcode composite/ s-video, so whatever he wants to get out of it need to be hooked up. IE, you can't hook up s-video from the DVD player, and record composite out of Zone B; you have to hook up composite from the DVD player, too.

I hve a B&K ref 21 (ref 10 upgraded to a ref 50) and I have called tech support at B&K on several occasions. They are great folks to deal with (you always talk to people with no menus or recordings) and they have never treated me like I didn't know anything or should of read the manual. That was the case on one call. Give them a call and they can give you the best way to solve your problem.
    Good Luck, Phil
