speaker break-in time???
i will be going the rti8 route in all four corners (yes, surrounds as well) and the csi5 center. haven't bought the rti8's yet but have hooked up the csi5. how long does it take to break-in? should i keep the volume low during the break-in period? and lastly, will they typically sound much better after broken-in? thank you to everyone in this forum.

I really dont believe in break in and havent heard a difference. I guess its more of the brain breaking in to the new sound rather than the speakers themselves.
Although others may believe in running music at such-and-such volume for such-and-such hours to break in a speaker, I say:
Just listen to your music and get used to the sound.

I've seen all sorts of methods for breaking stuff in. I say just play your stuff at low levels for a day, or do normal watching at non-destructive levels for a while.
I won't comment on the SQ differences before and after speaker break in, but the parameters of the drivers change a lot after 24 hours of pink noise break in.Brian Knauss

Break-in time is different for every speaker. Some people notice it while others don't. Even if you notice it, it'll probably be a subtle difference. Just play your music or movies as you normally would and don't worry about it. If, over time, you notice that the speakers sound better, that's great.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

About a half hour for me. Break in of speakers is an obvious mechanical fact.

Friggin' A! I Am So Darn Impatient That I Went Ahead And Threw Some Power To The Csi5. Clean At High Volume. Now I Must Hurry And Get The Surrounding Rti8's. Gotta Find The Best Deal First. Ebay. Btw......to Me It Would Make Sense To Go Easy On The Brand New Speaker For At Least A Day. Welp, Guess I Blew That Notion Outta The H2o.

right if something that has not moved then moves there is some adjustment needed. Since the drivers have not been driven since leaving the production line, then we bring them home and juice em' up, they will for a lack of a better word break in.

how is it you manage to capitalise the first letter of every single word?

Hello, Brother Neo. How's 'bout I Keep On Keepin' On? Looks Semi-cool With Every First Letter Of Every Word Being Capitalized, Yes/no? My Break In Has Gone On For But 5 Hours Thus Far. Can't Wait To Go Home And Crank Some Tunes. But I Desperately Need To Polish The Sound With The More Important Main Speakers And Surrounds. Just Have Cheap Satellites For Now (they Came Alive Big Time With 100 Watts Going To Them. Only Meant To Take Like 50 Watts Max) And When I Get All Speakers Set Up, I'm Never Ever Going To Leave Home. Let The Repo Man Try To Take My Polks Because I Refuse To Leave Home To Go To Work To Pay These Off. I'll Be Waiting With A Brew In One Hand, A Remote In The Other, And My Armalite Ar-10t And Glock By My Side!..j/k............................sort Of.

better? yes, i am still seeking out a sub for ht. i want that low frequency bass that i get from my jl audio 12's in my car. any sub will be loud enough, but few can handle the low, low frequencies.

you'll find that the quest for a sub at home is similar to that in a car... it's hard to strike a balance between SPL, how deep it can dig, and how cleanly it does so... you generally get to pick two, so i for example choose deep and clean and sacrifice SPL to do so...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

i may go with the svs pb12-plus/2. originally wanted the cylindrical 16-46. but they say this is much better. of course it is. two drivers, more wattage, more money!

i always liked the mystique of the cylinders, and that 16-46 is a hell of a speaker...It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

SVS offers alot of subwoofers for different means.
There is very little content below 15hz in movies. And a 20hz tuned subwoofer will easilly cover that content with room gain. There is no real reason for the 16-46 unless you just want to do pipe organ music. The 16-46 sacrifices 3db over the 25-31 in output in the higher octaves. The 16-46 will be geared more torwards movies.
Now, I am a cylinder fan, I would rather have dual cylinder subs co-located or stereo setup than a single 2 driver box subwoofer. But that is just me. But there is no reason to get a 16hz tuned subwoofer. Might as well get a 25hz tuned sub that is tunable to 20, 16hz for versatility.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
kinda like what the svs rep said. i told him i like the 16-46 but he likes the box type.
