Well, I thought I would start off one of my new posts whith one of my latest projects. I just finished a box for my Bronco. It is a 7ft3 vented alignment with 8 RE 8" subwoofers. Cabinet walls are all 1 1/4" MDF and heavily braced. The tuning is selectible depending on how many ports are plugged, 30-40-50Hz. With all ports unplugged it managed 143db on the dash with my Termlab meter with 154 watts.... I built it just to see what I could do with a highly efficent alignment.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

    Welcome to the forum bro.

That is a very impressive box. Looks professionally made. Well done.

143 db with 150 watts is insane! I couldnt imagine what that would hit with some major power.

I have thought about giving it more power. The subs move only about 1/4" at full output right now with 19 watts per woofer. I have used these before in about the same aligment with just two subs. They would take about 150 watts each when they would run into thier mechanical limits. So I think 1200-1500 watts would be good, I could probably do about 3KW as long as it was short and right at the 50Hz tune. I am pretty sure I could snake a number right at or a little below 150db. Also bear in mind that I have done all these measurements with a Termlab. It hits a 146 right now on an Audio Control at my buddies local Car Stereo shop..... But that is an Audio Control mic, not super consistent if you know what I mean.....

I have gone brute force before.... I built this wall for a Dodge Durango last year. 6 Tempest 15" subs and 2KW in a 25ft3 wall. Did 153 on the dash with the Termlab....

Did 154 on the dash of a 97 probe with 2 Alpine Type R 12's and an old Alpine 1507. Hmmm... you have MUCH more cone area and twice the power. Nice setup though.

What meter? One of my buddies holds MECCA's world championship title, he does a flat out 154 with 4 Tempest 15's and 1000 watts... In a 20 cube wall... 154 on the Termlab is vicous, It hurts.....

Meter means everything..... Audio Control said almost 160 in the same spot with the Durango....

Burp is 54Hz I think, I'll attach an image of the Termlab score... It says 152.8, but she did a 152.9-153 later that day. It was at Adire, two years ago at one of thier open houses....

I can't remember what meter it was now but he still was doing 149-150's at USAC finals with a voltage issue. Guess it's all about the box.

    Well...

Considering 6 drivers would only yield a... 7-8db increase over 1 driver... I don't see the real purpose behind having multiple drivers... ;)

It looks cool though, thats for sure...

Well, yes, but remember you gotta know what meter..... If it was done on an A/C mic, then it doesn't really mean much because they vary so much....

Look up scores and titles for anyone who uses the Termlab (Mecca, dbdrags, etc) and you will see what I mean....

150 is still pretty loud, though! :)

Man! Sweet looking box! Nice, clean, and professional looking! Impressive numbers, too! Not that I'd ever want anything to be that lould (except maybe a car alarm...hmm....now that could be a good idea...), but as long as it's tight and accurate too, that's awesome!

Oh, and welcome to the forum!!

you didn't really mean this, did you? you can play 1 sub at max excursion for 145 dB, or you can play 6 at 1/4 excursion for 150 dB, you tell me which will sound better...

Theoretically speaking, doubling the number of drivers will give you about 3db gain. So doubling that again, and now you've bumped it 3 more db. Seeing it's not quite doubling again, you're probably going to gain about 1-2db. That's how he came upon this number and yes, he's not far off. Now what he did NOT take into account was the fact of power. Adding more drivers most likely gained a lot of extra power from the amp which in turn gives you more output.
