circuit city now only carries moniter series polk. my question for those versed in both series of polk is what would sound better? rti8's or moniter 70's? i liked the mellow sound of the moniter 70's over the moniter 50's. 70's gave more of an open soundstage compared to 50's, yet i sort of liked the brightness of the 50's anyhow. now, step up to the rti8's. do they sound better than the moniter 50's or 70's? i'm going the rti route, but still would like some feedback/input. i greatly appreciate your opinions.

RTi all the way, no doubt.

Especially since you already have a CSi5.

yeah, there's no way in hell i'd want to mismatch different series or lines of speakers. not by sound nor by good looks. all matching items is my style. i asked because i haven't opened the new csi5 box yet and could possibly go the moniter series route. but maybe i'll stick with the rti's. no doubt. but there are sooooooo damned many mixed reviews on the rti10's. so figured the 8's were the way to go. i suppose i'm looking for a "pat on the back", so to speak, for choosing to make the correct decision on rti8's as mains and surrounds. possible rt6's for 7.1 surround as well.

I personally like the RTi10's better, but I completely understand why many prefer the 8's. The 8's are more foward with the midrange. I feel like the 10's are actually a flatter sound. Not sure how they actual meausre out. Maybe someone has a frequency plot for them. Of course that's sitting there, comparing back and forth. Once it's set up at home with a complete system, I doubt I'd notice much difference. I actually went with the RTi12's. :)

LOL, never noticed the RTi8's as surrounds part. Definite overkill, sounds like something I would do. I like it! *thinks back to days of LSi15's as mains and surround backs* :D

well, it's just gotta be better for all-channel music. better soundstage? hell, i've read a post about some monkey-boy whom used rti12's all the way around............tell me rti8's is overkill. i just have good power and want to unleash it. i'd rather power-drive rti8's than to under-drive rti12's.

I enjoy my 8's very much paired with a good sub. I have no reason to complain except I know I could use more juice.

We agree on all points and I found the sweetspot for this -its the Monitor 60 and yes the difference from the 50 is noticable.

I ordered the T90E from tweeter.com which is a euro version of M60s with real wood veneer (not available on any Monitor series) the price was equal to the Monitor 50s at circuit city - $350. The RTis8 sounded close to the M60s but were a tad brighter and went a little lower. I dont like to wait for stuff though.
