I purchased a pair of Monitor 40s last week to upgrade my Sony surrond sound in a boxsystem.

I paired them with a ONKYO Tx-Sr503.

Basically i want to know if I need a Csi5 or can I go with a Csi3 or something else?

Do I have enough power for the Rti12s?

And last but not least will the Monitor 40s be a good fit for rear surrounds?

BTW this is my first HTS but I also want it to be my last HTS or to at least sound great for the next 10years or so..

for a center, go with the CS2. Personally, i wouldn't put the 12's off that receiver. That's like buying an old vette and putting a golf cart motor in it.

Get the Csi5 and a 2-channel amp for the fronts with at least 200 wpc (if you have pre outs on the Onk).
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

That's gonna be hard to do....that upgrade itch can get ya.. :D

The 503 is going to struggle with the rti12's. That receiver does not have pre-outs so you are stuck with the internal amp in the 503.

The monitors will make great surround speakers.

go with the mon 40 as your mains for now off the onk. I would get the CSi5 center if it is in your budget (this center will easily grow with your system down the road and should work well with the monitors). Get small bookshelves, or even use the surrounds you have from the box system for now. Roll with this until you can build up a budget for that system you want to last for 10 years. To get that system (if its possible to avoid the upgrade bug) will take making the right decisions and not cutting corners.

Future?, a pre pro or a reciever with pre outs, a seperate amp and RTi10's or 12's, then just move the Mon 40's to the rear. With the CSi5 center, that would be a sweet home theater that i could certainly live with by a long shot.

by the way, what are you using for a sub? gotta figure a solid performing sub in the equation for a good home theater system.

I can return the Onkyo reciever. How about a Yamaha Rx-V 1500 instead? I can one for 600$ It's got pre-outs and 120W per channel.

If that wont do I can get the Rx-V2500 or a Denon AVR-2805.

As far as a subwoofer wont the Rti12s handle the bass?

Well lets see, I just bought a pair Of LSI15s and I have 2 pairs of monitor 40s now. Im running it off of a RXV-1500 and I'm using a JL10w2 with a Europower amp to make it hit.

Im just wondering what kind of configuration I should put this into?

Ditch the car sub and use the amp on the Lsi15s?

Keep the sub and let the Lsi15s handle the bass?

What do I do with the mon40s 1 is my front center, 2 are the surrounds, is the other one rear center?

Im really excited about the Lsi15s can't wait to turn up on full power!:D

Just by reading your past posts, it looks like you have $$$. Don't buy something awesome and cheap out with something else...

Get a nice amp, pre-amp, and sub(if you are a movie buff) to let your lsi15s sing.

Center channel would be next, you DON'T want to use a monitor series CC with LSis, get the LSiC. For surrounds, i guess the m40s would do fine for now, but if you have the cash, gets lsi bookshelves or the bipole/dipole speaks.

^Nope I didn't win anything, lol. I just got a job that pays better and gives me 40+ hours a week.

    I did win the Lsi15s for 800$ I considered that a steal.

I'm using a Yamaha RXV-1500 for a Receiver/Amp, I also have a Europower EP-150 amp that I've been using on the car sub, but I'm thinking of using that to Bi-amp the Lsi15s, with the Yamaha driving the Mids, and the Euro driving the Subs.

I can definitely tell the difference in performance quality between the Monitor 40s and the Lsi15s, when I first connected the Lsi15s with the Monitor 40 for a center the Monitor sounded muddled and too boomy. The YPAO auto setup feature on the Yamaha amp really helped to clear the center up so at least the vocals could be heard clearly, but the Lsi15s sounded great from the get go and clearly didn't need any help from the amp.

I'm also impressed with the way the subs are setup on the Lsi15s, they do an excellent job at filling the room, even though they are a mere 8". The sound-stage you guys are always talking about really makes sense to me now. I mean you go to tweeter and they have it setup and you listen to the speakers, but it doesn't make nearly as much impact as taking them home and actually upgrading what you already have, and then listening to you favorite movie scene and hearing everything in it distinctly and clearly for the first time, and realizing that you didn't even know that you weren't hearing it in the first place.

    Wow that was long.

    Cliffnotes
    Lsi15s > Monitor 40s
    Using Yamaha RXV-1500 to power Lsi15s, should I bi-amp with a Europower 150?
