Ok, so I decided not to use the OEM HU in my Tacoma. I went with the Clarion DRZ9255. Anyone familiar with this unit? Its supposed to be sweet.

So are bitter grapes.
Never owned a Clarion, but never had anything but problems with them in friend's cars. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
That seems to be one awesome sounding heat unit. If I had some xtra cash laying around I would have jumped on that. I think it is a classy looking deck with some serious SQ guts. Go to the link and check it out. They went Burr Brown happy with it . Oh I remember my 7949/PXA-H600 combo .

Ive owned a couple Clarion units in my life. One cassette player and one CD player. Both worked perfectly.
Ive heard some bitching about em but really no more than about any other brand.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

The DRZ9255 does look sweet but I am going to go with the DXZ955MC. Better price with cool features while still maintaining good SQ.

That is also a nice HU, but the DRZ9255 is very nice .Alpine: CDA-7949

So, I can get the DRZ9255 for $750. SQ should be phenomenal.
The DXZ955MC would sound nice as well and I can get it for $490. It has the Music Catcher feature that digitally stores 6 CDs which would take the place of a CD changer.
What would you do?1996blackmax wrote:That is also a nice HU, but the DRZ9255 is very nice . -
Man for that price I would jump on the DRZ9255 .
That is me, and you have to do what fits you best. The other Clarion I am pretty sure will sound very nice and it has nice convenience features. If that one has the features you want jump on that one. That is also a great price for that unit. You are one lucky guy .Alpine: CDA-7949

The last HU I bought was 14 years ago and it was a Clarion! Still works great. I wouldn't have a clue what to look for in features. All I know is I want to insert a CD and have it play music that makes the hairs on my neck stand up. I don't necessarily want to spend a fortune and the music catcher may be a fun feature. The stainless steel color would match the interior better. I can't go test any of this stuff out. A side by side comparison would be ideal, but that isn't going to happen. I am an aspiring audiophile but do you think I'll really be able to tell the difference in the two?
Thanks1996blackmax wrote:Man for that price I would jump on the DRZ9255 .

The differences may be very subtle since they both use 24bit DAC's. Obviously the DRZ255 has better parts, but is it worth the price difference? Those are both high end units. A good choice would be to get the 955MC add the differene in the price to what you were going to spend on some components, to get some very nice components. Polk has some very nice new components .Alpine: CDA-7949

I mainly listen to regular CD's, but once in a while it is nice to be able to play some MP3's (have not been successful in burning WMA's yet ). I usually do this on long drives when I do not want to change out CD's while driving at highway speeds.Alpine: CDA-7949

I bit the bullet and got the DXZ955MC from cardomain.com Final price was $545. A bit more than I wanted to spend but they are an authorized Clarion Proaudio dealer. Looking forward to getting all the gear installed!
