Toshiba DVD making RFI

OK, I'm not an HT guy. I'm mostly into 2-ch for music, but in the LR we have a Toshiba SD-3980 DVD player on a modest Zenith TV. Since sound from the TV itself is way bad, I do have an old Sansui 4000 receiver hooked up w/ Visonik David 602's & subwoofer.
Lately the DVD has begun to make RFI hash on channels 5 & 6 for the TV and also interfers w/ the tuner in the receiver (which I occassionally use.)
The equipment is all on a surge strip with RFI/EMI filter. Unplugging the DVD player stops the interference. Moving the DVD off the surge strip & into another socket doesn't help, so the interference isn't coming in the power line. The DVD itself works just fine--no problems w/ either picture or sound.
Any suggestions as to how I might reduce/eliminate the RFI (without buying a new DVD.)?
Thanks for your help,
Jim

Check your cables for the RFI hash...maybe swap out with different ones to try to isolate the problem. As far as interference w/ the tuner...that's common I've had the same problem when I used to use a tuner. I think both CD and DVD when powered on put out some sort of signal that can interfere w/ the tuner. Turn off those components when listening to the tuner.

You could maybe try to ferrite magnet clips for the power cords.

Can you borrow another DVD player from somebody? If you can, swap the borrowed DVD player with your's. If the problem goes away, I'd say there is something wrong with the DVD player that you probably won't be able to fix. It may need servicing, or you may just want to get a new DVD player.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo.

Thanks for all the tips.
I should first mention that the problem occurs even when the DVD player is 'off'; note that for this type of gear, off means still slightly powered up so it will respond to the remote. There is no true power switch--I expect that would solve the problem. Note that the unit did not originally do this, so it MAY be that the 'off' function no longer powers the unit down like it should.
It isn't related to the cables. I tried disconnecting all the cables, but as long as the power cord is pluged in, it causes RFI.
Looks at this point like pulling the plug each time has to be the answer. Works for me, but my wife is not pleased.

Looks to me like your DVD player is broken. Just get a new one. I think you can get a DVD player as a prize in a Cracker-Jacks box these days.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo.
