Word on the street is: this is in the running for worst movie of the year?
Can anyone confirm or disconfirm this?

    If you take it for what it is imeant to be - a stupid, fun movie - you won't be disappointed. I went and saw it, and enjoyed nearly every second. People who are expecting Shakespeare and whining about it are morons. It's the DUKES OF HAZZARD.

    Also, if you're too lost in the past to see some changes made to an old TV show, don't see it - it's in no way true to the original. But it's true to the original in spirit - a stupid fun form of entertainment.

    People seriously need to lighten up on this one, says me.

    I bought a trailer of it on DVD and all looks good. Keep in mind most reviewers are going to be "embarrased" to review it properly, old stuck up farts they are... So far the ones I heard have been of the opinion this type of movie is below them. They don't come out and say it but you can just tell.

    I saw the movie and laughed like hell, which was all i was looking for from this movie. A bunch of cameos from the Broken Lizard clan helped (there funny as hell). This is not a movie that warrants intricate critique.

    The Broken Lizard guys actually made this one, which I was psyched to find out going in.

    The Supertroopers scene on the campus was AWESOME.

    I cant believe the people they put together for a cast.

    I grew up on this show and dont take kindly to it being bastardized into this steaming pile of ****.

    Also, my main issue with this is that at least in the original they 'dukes' were somewhat respectable guys. They weren't always on the side of the law, but they were always trying to do the right thing for the most part.

    From what I've seen from the previews, the movie is just too reckless guys running around doing stupid ****. If that's wrong, the fine, I may see it someday, but I'm still gonna be pissed because of how they marketed this thing.

    Thats what I got from the previews. Basically its an American Pie college style flick set in Georgia.

    That was the cool think about the original DOH, it actually made the south look good. Dont know it you havent noticed but in most media, the south is portrayed as a bunch of inbred racists playing banjos while looking for black people to hang! It was nice to have a positve image of us on national TV.

    I didn't really watch it much as a kid but I agree with you completely. They took a concept and said "Eh, **** it... we'll just do whatever we want with it now." Sorry but I'll never see it. BTW, it was only a few guys from Broken Lizard who helped with it, it wasn't exactly a TRUE Broken Lizard movie.

    Series was funny, but the movie seems (amazingly so) more corny than the TV show...

    Hey guys, ease up a bit...

    I never said I expected it to be Oscar caliber. I've not been critical of the movie at all in that way, and I've played the same 'It's just a fun movie, relax and enjoy it' card that you're playing now several times before.

    HOWEVER, based on the previews, I just don't find anything appealing about this movie. Yeah, the TV series itself was pretty stupid and corny and all, but it had some redeeming qualities IMO in that the guys were decent people trying to do the right thing for the most part - the movie looks a LOT different in terms of the general spirit of what's going on. It appears to lack the 'redeeming quality' that the original TV series had.

    Bottom line though, is I don't see anyone on this thread bashing the movie because of lack of plot development or character development, no one's talking about this movie in terms of Oscar quality or saying "I dunno, it's just not quite up there qith Shawshank". We have just as much right to not like this movie for whatever reason...

    The "quit trying to judge this movie against Oscar standards and just sit back enjoy it" statements seem a bit out of line given what's actually been said by those of us that don't like this movie...

    Broken Lizard are the guys who did "Super Troopers" and "Club Dread".

    And PM, no one's trying to take your right to not like the movie away. I have a right to debate against your opinion, it doesn't mean I'm taking the opinion from you. You're arguing your side, I'm arguing mine, right?

    I just think it's absurd how many people are saying they don't like it BEFORE THEY EVEN SEE IT because they think it's causing some disservice to the TV show, when in fact it's in the exact same spirit as the TV show. I grew up with the Dukes too (mostly as reruns - I was a little young on the first airings :) ). Personally I don't see a huge difference in the "portrayal of the South" or the characters or anything else. It's a little more modern and over the top, and yes, they changed the characters. They may be a little "stupider" than the original show but they're still "good people", as someone keeps alluding to.

    If you don't like this type of movie, or thought the Dukes series was stupid, that's a legitimate reason to not see it, obviously. But the whole "I loved the original series, and this looks like a piece of crap" mentality just seems... silly.
