i just pulled the trigger on a Anthem pre 1L preamp. i intended to hook George Daniel up with it but i dont think he has decided for sure what pre amp he wants yet. i bought it from upscale audio in california it is a trade in. Doro thought $485.00 was a little high and i called the guy today and offered $450.00 and the guy agreed. i owned a solid state Anthem tlp 1 preamp before and the build quality was outstanding but it was too laid back in my previous system. the pre1L was originaly designed to go head to head with the audible illusions modulus 3A and is supposed to sound good with a wide variety of music. it will take a week to ship from california and it is already burned in. i will post some initial impressions on it by friday of next week.

How'd this turn out? Did I miss a separate thread in which you gave a little 'review' of it?

i like the Anthem pre 1L very much. i upgraded the stock power cord to a Signal cable magic power cable. the unit came stock with a quad of Russian EH 6922s. doro/Mark gave me a mixed quad of JAN 6922s and 6JD8s and i liked them in this preamp so much that i ordered a matched and balanced Quad of JAN Phillips 6922s and that is what i am running right now. the pre sounds very good for the 450.00 that i paid for it, but i am looking for a higher end unit to go with the new Loreleis and a remote would be nice but it is not a requirement carved in stone. yeah the Anthem Pre 1L is a very good preamplifier and this unit is flawless and clean as a whistle inside and out. doro/Mark just pmed me and said some mods using sonicaps would take this preamp to a higher level, so there another option that i have to choose from. thanks....WCW III

Awesome. Yeah, the EH and JAN tubes are great. My favorite is the JJ 6922. Sounds a lot like EH but with more powerful bass and less irritating highs. You'll have a lot of fun tube rolling with 6DJ8/6922.

    William,

polkatese has his MLP for sale in the FM for $1275. That's less than half price. It uses the 12AX7s and has a HT pass and remote.

hey ND13,it sounds like a great deal on a sweet preamp,i am just sitting on the fence at the moment i will make a move eventually, as to what that move will be is another story. a very nice Audio by Van Alstine transendence 7 preamp is for sale dirt cheap on the audiocircles and the guy is throwing in a few nice sets of NOS tubes with it but i am still looking and i wont buy another preamp till i am ready.thanks....WCW III
