Speaker Specs
How do I find out what a certain set of speaker's specs are? I am talking about the graph that shows how flat a speaker is so that you may set your cross overs properly. I just purchased a set of 4x6 Polk plate speakers and a pair of 6 1/2 Polk components. On the box, the plates say that they have a range of 73hz-25khz.
The 6.5 components say that they have a range of 43hz to 25khz.\
Does this mean that I could actually set my HU's cross over to say 50hz and not hurt these speakers? I don't have a sub or amp at this time, but will be installing amps for the speakers and the sub that will be going in. I got my equipment from Crutchfield and they sold me a pair of bass blockers at 300hz. Do I need those?

i'm assuming you have the components up front. you actually could probably run them with no crossover at all - your headunit doesn't produce enough power to over-excurse them even at 20 Hz. if you feel the need to, feel free to crossover the fronts at 50 Hz. this will change to 80 or 100 or so when you get a sub.
the rears are a different matter. i would crossover the rears as high as the HU allows. again, it doesn't have the power to hurt those speakers, but the crossover point and the fading from front to rear have a big impact on whole the whole shebang sounds... play around with it, see what you like.
oh, one last thing - any further discussion should take place in the "car audio and electronics" section, this one is technically for home audio .It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon
