Hey, I am currently in the process of putting together the audio part of my HT.
I have the TV already (samsung HL-R6167W) I actually wanted the 1080p samsung but I screwed up and am now stuck with this since amazon wont take it back. It is agonizing since I researched it for a while and simply had a brain **** when ordering.

Anywho, I figured I'd go polk since I always have liked their sound.

I am limited by space. I needed smallish fronts (RTi6?). In ceiling rears (RC60i?)
CSi5 center and psw505 sub. Would these work well together?

I also needed some advice on what AVR to buy (and DVD also :))
I was looking along the lines of the Denon 3805. Something around the $1000 range, preferably a little below like the denon.
HDMI would be nice but i'm seeing that in only the higher end AVRs or lower end AVRs.
Thats about where i am. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I need someone to hold my hand so I don't screw up again. :(

thx

Hello BTex and welcome to the forum. The rti6's and csi5 are pretty much made for one another. I would skip the polk505 sub and look into either SVS, Velodyne or HSU- but that's my opinion.

In ceilings I don't know about- however the popular opine around here is that in ceilings are not as good as on wall speakers for surround- BUT if space is an issue...

The Denons (2105 and up) are very very nice receivers. Before you buy however, I urge you to check out Harman Kardon. Although the Denon's processing, DACS and overall features are slightly superior to H/K, IMO the H/K has a better, warmer sound quality to it that is noticeable; better quality amplifiers, more honest power ratings and more current in the amp stages. I think between Denon and H/K it's a tossup- it just depends on what you're looking for in a receiver and if you're going to use it's pre-outs if you're planning on buying separate amplifiers to run your speakers. I've always considered H/K to be alot like B&K. They skimp on features and put all their muscle into what I think matters the most- the sound and amp quality.

As you can tell by my mid-fi setup, i'm not too familiar with HDMI so I can't help you there. Anyway good luck!

    Hi BTex, welcome!

I think the Denon 3805 will do great! It's a well liked brand around here, myself included. Alot of people also swear by their DVD players as well. So check out Denon's DVD player offerings as well.

    Thx for the warm welcome!
I've been reading a bit on the HK AVR635. It is around the price I was thinking. Would the 75watts/channel be good for the speakers I mentioned? I had an HK from a friend who bought new about 15 yrs ago, and it was 10 yrs old or more at that time. It still sounded great.
I also didn't mention this will be for HT only in the TV room. I would like to have stereo in my living room, and patio also. So that is 2 more zones? Am I correct so far? and the HK seems to only have a second zone? I saw the Denon had 3 zones.
please correct me if i'm wrong. i've been reading all day and things are starting to meld together. also when they talk about remote for the other zones what does it mean exactly? an inwall touchpad or a remote that can reach the receiver?
ugh, I'm probably worrying about this more than I should. If i go with either denon, HK or rotel I think my untrained ears would be happy.
The only av shop within 50 miles of me only has B&W speakers, and denon and marantz receivers. So thats all I've heard in person, recently anyway, and thought they sounded good. how do the 600 series B&W compare to the polks I mentioned?
aaharvel, how do you like your CHT-10 for HT? Is there enough rumble for movies? I've read they are tighter than other subs.

    thx for the help

tight as a virgin on prom night.
I don't judge a sub by it's output on movies- but rather with music. I got mine brand new for $200 including the Velodyne factory warranty. IMO if you can find it it's the best sub 4 the $. If anyone else knows of a $200 brand new sub that can beat it I'd sure like to hear it.

BUT- yes it's incredible for movies too. 28hz is the reported limit but in a corner it goes down to about 25hz at -6db. Perfect.
