I just found a CD in my attic called 'Works I' by Pat Metheny, and I rather enjoyed it... I listen to mostly metal, so this was a nice change of pace, and i really liked the way he allowed the music to be influenced by different styles and still keep the main thread going.

anyone have a reccommendation for a next CD to pick up? maybe a good one by metheny, maybe something else like it, whatever, i'm just looking to expand my horizons a bit...

Metheny is an awesome guitar player.

I like all his stuff, "Bright Size Life" is really good and my last purchase.

Also, check him out on alot of the Brecker stuff. Michael Brecker kicks some major **** on sax, and he jamps alot with Dennis Chamber (badass drummer, prob best alive today) and Pat. Tales From the Hudson has some of the best Brecker/Metheny work around...

I've met all these guys several times in music clinics in different schools around the country - all among the best in the world at what they do...

Actually, now that I think about it more, Michael's self titled album also has alot of great stuff on it.

Note - the Brecker albums are more jazz sounding to most people than the Metheny solo work, but we're talking 'real' jazz here, not that Kenny G BS

I saw his band play out in the middle of the friggin woods by Lake Thunderbird in around '71. I mean just trees in a forest, maybe a campfire, and a few dozen folks. I don't even remember where the hell they ran power from, maybe a generator. I thought he was a local, had no clue what style he played before seeing that.
I wonder if he remembers that.

Looks like you're getting recs for most of his albums which does not surprise me as its all mostly good IMO. A fav of mine is The First Circle which I think came out shorlty after after Off Ramp (another good one).

Imaginary Day is a great disc, one of his latest discs, saw him do the whole thing live 2 or 3 years ago...fantastic....the song " Roots of Coincidence" will put your speakers to the test as well.

If you like Pat Metheny check out Al DiMeola. Another great guitarist who's work is not as recognized as it should be.

^^^+1! Or, you could check out a guy named Rik Emmett. He used to be with a band called Triumph, They were a very talented band, but they were kind of regarded as bubblegum rock.
BTW, his 'youtube' vid's don't do him justice.
