ok, lets go on a little journy. its late in the evening, pitch black outside. you come home after a long hard day of work to find your self exausted. using previous knoledge from my poll earlier i have discovered that me most of you strive to be the biggest lazy bum that you can possibly be with out getting in trouble with anyone. knowing this you go to sit down in the sweet spot/ captons chair/ area in the room that has your **** impinted on it becuase you never leave it! the reciever is turned up to refernce level and theres a huge bowl of popcorn in your hands with a soda sitting right next to you comforting you with the gentle soothing sounds of carbonation.

now to the important part... which dvd should you pop in the player? you want things wizzing over year head, stuff sprinting from left to right and then, maybe back again?!?! you want the most mind blowing special effects/sound effects that your heart can take just before the point where it wants to stop beating becuase your so content with your system/tv/movie!

now some of you may be thinking, why is this kid rambiling sooo much. he could have asked this question in one sentence but 2 paragraphs? this kid must be on crack or something. well im sitting at work bored and i enjoy reading posts like this so i figure id try to write a few!

now as for my movie id think off the top of my head id have to say matrix 2 freeway car chase scence but i feel as if thats a little cleshay (spelling??) and want to try something a little different.

so speak your mind and have fun because i just might rename this thread to the "im using to many big words to say somehing really simple" lol

p.s. im really really reallly really bored at work and its only 930 here

Master & Comander; first battle scene; if you have a good subwoofer you'll think they are actually shooting at you...then there is a lot of running steps that go all around the room....

Stir Of Echoes - Eerily passages during the movie....

And one other that I forgot the name to. Watched it one night on HBO or Showtime HD.....the story line goes that there is a guy that inherits a glass house that turns out to be some puzzle that releases ghosts.....remember now 13 Ghosts (?)

Star Wars Episode 1. The Lightsabre dual between Obi Wan and Darth Maul.

I love the sound of those sabres whirling around, especially when Maul would flip around. Plus, that 45 second bit is my alltime favorite fight scene.

I also agree Master & Commander is the way to go. The cannon shots in the opening battle scene are simply awesome.

Another goody is Brotherhood of the Wolf.
Band of Brothers also has some good stuff.

Another oddball movie that you'd not expect to have alot of surround usage is Requiem for a Dream. The surrounds are very active in this.

I don't think I've ever seen U-571... I'll have to pick that up sometime and check it out.

Saving Private Ryan is pretty decent. The intro to Ice Age isn't too bad either.

I'll put through another vote for the first cannon batte in Master and Commander.

I also love the LOTR films for sound effects sequences.
My two favorites are the Dwarf tomb all the way to Gandalf's fall from Fellowship and the first appearance of the Witch King as the great signal comes up from the dead city in Return of the King. A lot of great sound effects. Maybe not as busy as some of the others suggested, but very effective.

Three of the best surround around movies I have seen so far was:

    1) The Incredibles ~ Even comes with a THX optimizer
    2) Finding Nemo ~ Really nice THX intro in the standard screen version
    3) Pirates of the Carribean ~ Had me dodging bullets on Chapter 11

The two (or three) best sound design sequences af all time, in my book, are the opening and ending of Saving Private Ryan, and the pod race in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. But really, the original Star Wars trilogy created sound design as we know it today, and some of the better ones that come to mind, a la Jurassic Park et al, ar just an outgrowth of what Star Wars and Skywalker Sound established, including all of the Pixar pictures.
