Question for you Bass Heads.
In graphing a spl response curve for a friends Aiwa sub I came across some funny numbers. And was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what is happening. I would post the graph but I think I can explain my question without.
The readings from 25 hz and up are pretty standard. Peaks and valleys in the 80 to 95 db range. Not a flat curve but not horrible either. Where it gets weird is the readings from 16 hz, 18 hz, 20 hz and 22 hz. The 16 hz measurement is 100 dbs (corrected). The next 3 readings (18,20,22) fall to 80 dbs.
My question is this: Isn't that a lot of output at a very low freq for a entry level sub? I'm sure I must be missing something, any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks kevin

There's no way your friends Aiwa is doing 16 hz at 80 db. Maybe your mic is **** up, or maybe your correction factor or weighting scale is wrong?

355, I didn't think it would be that long before somebody said that. .
I know that something ain't right, but just wanted a few ideas as to what that might be. Maybe the rat shack spl meter is cracking up.

I'm frankly surprised it plays anything below 40hz.
