Circuit City has the R50's for $220 a pair! http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polk-Floorstanding-Speaker-R50-/sem/rpsm/oid/51513/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Isnt this ridiulously cheap? Too good to be true actually.

Its not in stock in any store so Id have to order them online but damn!

How good are these speakers? I know theyre $640 MSRP so a $420 discount seems pretty damn good. I may have to put my transmission servicing on hold to grab these up.

What am I missing?

    RTi4 is better for music.

Mac, I don't want to burst your bubble, but Fry's just had them on sale for $139 a pair within the last couple of weeks, so you might want to check Outpost, cause they seem to alternate their sale prices. But with that said, $220 is still a great deal.

I dont listen to music that much at home. Im probably 15% music and 85% movies, tv and games. Plus with no sub, the dual 6.5's may be usefull. Plus, floorstanding speaker just look cool!

Outpost has them for $200 each right now.

Hmmmmm. I wish I could go listen to them but nobody within a light year of me has them.

hmmm....shipping is a killer on outpost...so it's up to you.
I bought my R50's and want to sell them soon pending a upgrade but theres no point in me putting money into shipping these "big and heavy " speakers when they aren't worth "that" much. But the problem I had was listening to too many speakers better than the r50...then I knew what I was missing and really really want it....so anyway back on subject...

tax might hit you? not sure if there is a fry's in TN...but if you pick it up at CC definatly...so just factor in the cost of outpost (waiting, tax?, shipping) vs CC (local, tax, no shipping, no wait)

Good luck and I would upgrade to a pair of better bookshelves if you can...this is coming from someone (happily owning) r50's.

Hmm this post seems to downgrade r50's...just know I think they are great for movies for the price....so just ignore everything else and hopefully you'll like them =)

I like mine quite a bit. I like them for music too. It depends on what you are looking for. Anyway, Outpost puts them up about twice a month for either $79 or $69 ea. I'm told by someone from Michigan he paid about $200 a pair shipped. TN will probably be cheaper.

Not too much difference between CC and Outpost.

    Good luck

I have the R30's which are excellent for HT, and good for music. Depending on what type of music you are listening to, the R30's can get overwhelmed..Not sure if the R50's would be similiar.

    Regardless, those prices are excellent

There isn't a Circuit City near you? What are you, about two hours from Atlanta? I know there's one there, probably several. How far are you from Knoxville, I went in one there about a month ago when I was out there and they had a good selection on Polk stuff...

There is a Circuit City not 5 minutes from my house but they dont have the R50's. All they carry are the R15's and they arent hooked up.

Hell, all the Monitor speakers are in the middle of the floor running as a HT display right next to a bunch of Infinity speakers. They dont have much in the way of listening opportunity.

    +1.

The reason it seems too good to be true is because it is.
IMO (IMO) the r polks are terrible for everything.

I have to disagree...The R series are very good HT speakers, but ok for music. Are they as good as the RTi series? No, but for the money, they are excellent. Build quality is also excellent..

I don't think that there is a "new" pair of towers out there, in the $200/pr range, that can touch the R50s for HT or music. If there.is someone please hook a brother up

I like the Rtis better too, but for $190 for R50s & 15s, I have a superior HT setup in my family room to most entry level speakers. It's a question of taste, IMO, vs the monitors, though I give the 70s the edge.

last ones, yep, bought em on the spot... you see, i have this horrible affliction, where somehow i'm allergic to money, so i have to give it to someone else as soon as possible...

they're sitting in my living room at the moment, playing some satellite radio into an empty house, breaking them in...

so, i have to ask, is there anything i should be aware of with these? do the tweeters die unusually quickly or anything like that? any xover mods i should consider?

i'm really liking them, yay polk... and if this is their budget line, it makes me shiver to think of the day that i finally acquire some of the really good stuff...

I've had my R30's for about two years with no problems at all. I believe the R30's use the same drivers/tweets as the R50's (of course the 50's have the extra driver).

I think Im gonna wait and get the RTi4's. I really dig this line of speakers, their SQ resembles Polk's Momo car speaker line.

Neo, you defintely want to go listen to the RTi12's. Bring a wetnap with you though!

where could i find them? that's the problem with where i live, there's only one good home audio place, and it's TOTL - their demo system is McIntosh's XRT line arrays and about 30 grand worth of McIntosh processing and amplification... just vaguely out of my league, atm...
