So that means a better picture or better sound or both?

Do you have to have a special DVD player for it?

Yep. Better picture and better sound.
Nope. No need for a special DVD player.
Just buy a few and try 'em out.

Superbit, in summary, is just a high quality transfer like someone else mentioned. They get rid of crap like extras and commentary and use that space for video and audio.

Fifth Element Superbit is one of those standard movies to have for showing off your TV. I think it was one of the first "standards" to have... then all of the Pixar movies came out and are constantly playing at every decent AV store.

Went to my local BB (Totawa, NJ) at lunch yesterday and there was a limited amount of superbit titles available. Also checked online and Vertical Limit was STILL listed at full price!

Ive noticed this too. Everytime I go into a Tweeter, CC or BB its always Finding Nemo or The Incredibles playing on all the tv's. I understand why, cause those cartoons look unbelievable on a good plasma set.

The main thing for me with Superbit is that I get the DTS soundtrack...that's what sells it for me - I really can't tell any difference in video quality...

I've never tried a superbit. How does the quality compare to the Lion King enhanced version, which I thought was an excellent mix.

It should be noted that NOT ALL superbit titles are $9.99. In the BB store in Bridgewater, NJ they had all of their superbits on a separate display and all were marked with the full price. The Patriot rang up at $9.99 while Vertical Limit rang up at $22.99!

    Remember, YMMV.

I just checked instore at the BB store in Murietta , CA .... they too had the separate Superbit display up as well , with all but one of the disks being marked at $9.99 . The disk that was not marked with the lower price still rang up at the register as $9.99 ; but the only movie that I can verify this on was "Snatch" (marked as $21.99) and rang up as $9.99 .
BTW , the Murietta store still had 99% of the mentioned list still available /instock .

Picked up SWAT yesterday. Gonna give it a whirl on the "new" system. I watched Fifth Element Superbit before and the picture quality was spectacular (movie sucked, though), even on my 36" RPTV. Unfortunately, none of the Superbit titles appeal to me, including SWAT, but for $9.99 definitely it's worth a try. Gotta luv the cool silver casing.

Just watched SWAT. It was OK. Compared to the regular SWAT DVD, the SQ may have been a little better with gunshots and music, but for some reason the explosions weren't explosive enough. I'll have to try DTS next time, although DTS is usually too over the top for my system. Didn't notice the PQ being better on my TV.
