Any of you Nascar fans out there??? What did you think of Tony's win @ Indy? I have been a fan of Tony Stewart since his Indy Car days. I thought it was fantastic to see him win there. One of my top 5 sports memories ever.

I dont like Stewart all that much. I think he's an ****.

However there is no denying his talent. He is just too good right now and I think at this point in time, he's the best on the circuit.

That being said, I did find myself pulling for him. This being his dream to win at Indy and in his home state I liked seeing him pull it off. **** or not, its still a lot of fun watching him drive the wheels off that car.

My guy is Gordon. I think his season is done but maybe he can pull it together and still make it into The Chase.

A couple years ago Jeff G. came to Riley hospital for children for a visit and had one of his cool race cars sitting out in front of the building for the day.

I have not kept up with Nascar much this year. I've always enjoyed it. I was watching TV when Fireball Roberts got killed. My father had bought a brand new 1960 Pontiac Catalina and Roberts was driving a Pontiac. Guess that caught my interest. Went to several races back in the early 70's: Atlanta, Charlotte, Darlington, etc. I was at Darlington one time, right on the front seats, Petty came by and blew his engine right in front of me. Added to the excitement.

I like Gordon and Sadler (Elliot), I was bummed when Elliot blew his tire at the end.
Not that he had much of a chance to win but he might have finnished top five.
I was pullin for Stewart at the end though, I like him better than what's-his-face that took first looser.

I used to like Stewart, until I started to know him a little better. He just does to many stupid things (although I still root for him a bit). I like Sadler, and good ol Mark Martin. How can you not like an old man driving a Viagra car! But where are the comentaries?

    "...and Martin is trusting through!"
    "...Marting is driving hard now!"
"...here comes Martin! He's coming, he coming!".

P.S. They will be turning right next week!!!!!!

NASCAR has several road courses, so those snobby Indy cars can kiss our collective ****!

I dont like Mark Martin because hes a cry baby. Just last race he was whining to the spotters to "tell Earnhardt to get out of his way, he's knows Im no good in traffic"!

He did it a lot last year too especially in the last few races. Once The Chase is on, youll hear a ton of crying from Martin everytime he cant cut it and somebody is in his way or behind him or whatever.

I was just looking at the points as they stan d today, doesn't look like Gordon is going to get in - although there's still a chance I guess. You have to figure he'll do well next week, he's probably the best road course driver in NASCAR - but I think it's a long shot for him to to make the cut into the top 10 in time.

I'm not so sure this new points system is the best way to go for NASCAR. When several of your biggest stars aren't even in the picture for the last ten races of the year - well that's just not good business. This isn't as big of a deal in other sports, but with NASCAR I think it is.

I'm no expert, but I'd guess that between Gordon and Dale Jr, you've got close to 90 % of NASCAR viewership, and it looks like those guys are out of the deal at this point. Granted, they'll still be racing, but not for a champoinship.

My guess is that the ratings will go down as some of the big names get ruled out of the Chase, and NASCAR will be rethinking this system after this season or next.

Typical F1 car, 0-100 and back to 0 in 6.6 seconds. Not to mention they have enough down force to actually stick to a road upside down!!! Try that in a "stock" car.

I enjoy all forms of auto racing, including Nascar, but F1 has no equal.

BTW, do you think F1 will be back in Indy next season, or will they move it somewhere else? Will they even come back to the US??

Yes I was just trying to comprehend what you would be watching because live coverage for our racing didnt start until many years later. I dated Fireball Roberts daughter Pam in the early 70s and have worked on cup cars for about 32 years now.

I used to be pretty big into F1 (when I first started watching I thought Mika Hakkanen [spl] was brand of car because that's all they talked about). But Micheal started giving him a run for his money, then I lost a little intrest when all he did was win (I think he took 12 of the first 13 one year). And now, with all the rules (one set of tires?!?) it seems like someone always wins by 30 seconds. (they need to do something to make it a little more closer at the end and more exciting during the race or they will never get the US market).

Now I'm getting anoyed with that F1 czar (I don't know his name), but he thinks he's god and F1 is the only racing there is. And he sounds like such a dick (saying Dinaca should stay home, she should be like a kitchen appliance).

Was just saying that I didn't say anything about him crashing in Charlotte. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he wreck in Daytona in 64. There was TV coverage at the time but as you said, it wasn't live. Taped segments and news clips. Still TV.

Back straight Charlotte, Junior Johnson,Ned Jarrett crash off 2 Fireball turned to miss and ends upside down on fire. He dies two weeks later. I have a 16 mm video copy that a fan took from the stands and Mr. Johnson when I worked for him rode me around the track during a test and explained how it all happened.

I actually like the new points system. The whole chase thing give you a "post season" just like most other sport.

And as for Gordon and Jr. not doing well in the points, thats because theyre not doing well on the track! The top guys in the standings are having great seasons with consistant good finishes. Gordon and Jr are finishing at the tale end virtually every race. Im a Gordon fan but he's not performing good enouh to be in the top 10 and so he isnt. I think the new point system is quite accurate.
