When one looks at the specs of a speaker fore.g. the freuency range and it says 35- 20 hz etc and one says 82-25 hz is the lower range better ? what does one look for.

I have selected this set of speakers for my purchase which set is better for mostly watching movies on dvd and hd satellitte. my room has 16 foot celings its 15 feet wide and 23 feet long.

1. polk audio: rti10 (floors) : centre csi 5 : fxi 3 (surround) velodyne 12" woofer

2. Klipsch: Rf-5 (floors0): centre RC-7 : RS-7 (surround) velodyne 12" woofer

Which one of these are better stats wise ? no bias opinions please

    Mains: polk R30
    Center: polk CSi3
    Rear Surrounds: polk R20
    Subwoofer: polk PSW404
    DVD: Panasonic DVD-S29

If you can, try to audition them both and see which one sounds better to your ears and forget about the specs.

You will have the Velo sub to take care of the bottom bass in either case, and not only can most people not hear past 20 khz, but there really isn't a whole lot of recoded material that extends out that high anyway.

I would go by which speaker has the tonal characteristics you prefer. They are both very different sounding speakers. IMO I enjoy the sound of Polk more. I like the vifa tweeter on the Polk and the horn tweeter on the Klipsch makes my ears bleed. :D

I used to also own klipsch and I gave them up for polks which are smoother and better sounding than the klipsch which are too bright and are harsh when turned up.

You will most likely be crossing over the low end at 80Hz with your AVR and sending that info to the subwoofer, so keep that in mind.

HAHA it is kinda funny to post a poll that on a polk forum.... i think i know who will end up winning. Go ask that same question on a klipch forum and see what happens. For some reason i do beleive it will be just the oposite. :)

Yes, it would be kind of like asking about solid-state versus tubes on this forum.

Go to a neutral corner and ask speaker questions.
