Just got home with my new CDP..!! :D

A Jolida Jd-100A Vacuum Tube Compact Disc Player !

First let me say this....Built like a tank !
This is the only piece of gear that has a silver face, so at first I was kinda iffy about it...

I plugged in my MIT S1 I/C`s into the cdp ran them to the `ol Dodd pre, and then down to the beast (Parasound Hca-3500)

Right away I noticed a difference from my AH! 4000

Tha AH! is by far the best cdp I have had the pleasure to own...I just modded it by installing the burr brown chip, dynamatted the whole thing , installed a way better power cord, and of course, the upsampler board, she has 7308 tubes....and sounds great !

The Jolida uses 12ax7a`s...my first experience with these tubes...
It does not utilize op-amps, and is 24 bit...

I will be doing a stage 1 or 2 upgrade as soon as cash flow permits, but for now......

I`m loving it..!!
:p:D:p

On a sour waf type note...
This was the perverbial " straw" as it were... :(:o

since I had purchased the AH! a month or two ago, and spent 500.00 on the upgrades, the wife is not pleased , nor does she understand this killer deal that I couldn`t pass up...
I tried to help her understand, but...( I really don`t think she even wants too)
so...

Tomorrow will be spent picture taking , boxing and advertising all extra gear,
for emediate sale...
I really want the 2.3`s that LUC has in the fleamarket, but ....
I need to get my plans for going to the PolkFest funded first..

Stay tuned for more impressions of the Jolida...and a bunch of stuff for sale soon!!  :(:o

I'm looking forward to your impressions. If the Jolida came with the stock Chinese tubes, replace them before any A/B'ing as they are total crap.

IMO, the Ei's you have in it are the best ones. Others like the EH's or Sovtek's and some like NOS (vintage) tubes, I didn't. Jolida does not mod their products. Companies like Underwood HiFi and Sound Odyssey will.

these tubes seem to sound good so far...

I was looking at the Sound Odessy`s web site....looks kinda pricey to do a lot of upgrading...

I`m sure that any of them (1,2,or level 3) would be a great improvement, but how much of the mod would I realize in my listening environment ?
some , I`m sure, but I think a level 2 is all I would want to go to...
    Deminishing returns and all that...
definatly a level 1 mod is in order though....lower the noise floor, and darken the background as much as possible without getting to crazy with it..!!

I`m thinking my next upgrade is going to be a mid to upper level tube pre amp

I bought mine with the level one mod from SO. It came with EH tubes which I found a bit edgy in the higher regions. I tried various other tubes and found the Ei's to have the best overall sound, adding a PS Audio power cord only made things better. Until I upgrade the rest of the shop rig gear, I'll hold off on any further mods. You may want to try a new power cord first.
