This is 1 speaker, not a pair. I bought this in May on epay mainly to hear what the peerless tweeter sounds like and it is very smooth but now I have no use for it. It should make a good center for a HT or it is well worth it just for the spare parts. I will charge actual UPS ground shipping from 77450 @ 30 lbs. unless you want it quicker. I paid $26 for shipping from NC to TX. There is no original box but I have the box that it was safely shipped from NC in. Thanks
Thanks

Rather than put in a whole new thread I will ask this here. Can I buy an original negative speaker binding post from someone for a SDA 2.3? I know I could upgrade them all but for now I just want to keep them original. Pic: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=10266
Thanks -

No.
Just buy a new pair of stock binders from Polk, they are drop in replacements.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Thanks, I guess I didn't ask them for the right part when I called them.

Hi,
If there is any easy way to shield it for use under a tv I will buy it. It would be a great center ch for the monitor 7s. Thanks, JeffMain system: Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 w Polk LSiM 703/ Pioneer 42" plasma w Flex Streamer, Sangaen HDT-1tuner

I'm not familiar with shielding but others on here probably are.

CL35m,
I want 2nd dibs, if BB backs out. I could use the Peerless for a backup for my Mon 10As and 7As, if one should ever fail.
And I could set up an all "Vintage Monitor" 5.1 HT. I bet that would be great for movies.

Shielding requires a magnet of opposite polarity of the magnet that is on the woofer. I don't think that's an easy thing to do but I honestly don't know.

You can buy "bucking" magnets from Parts Express. Get yourself from Gorilla Glue and some clamps and go to town.

Polk sells some bucking mags, too - I bought a set for my Monitor 7Cs. But PE is cheaper.
You aren't going to get full shielding by attaching bucking magnets. They'll help, but you'll still have placement issues. You can use super glue - then you don't have to clamp/hold it for more than a minute or so.
I started a thread somewhere here on achieving full shielding - which includes attaching a metal 'cup' to the back of the drivers. I used bucking magnets on a tweeter and two 6.5" drivers for a center I built. I had to play around with the angle of the baffle (leaned the top back a few degrees) and move the TV forward on the TV cart to avoid interference.
I wanted to point this out so you won't be disappointed when you attach some magnets and end up not being able to put the speaker just anywhere.
Remember, when you attach bucking mags, you have to reverse the polarity from the original magnet - you'll have to FORCE the bucking mag into place and hold it while the glue dries. If it feels 'easy' you've got it the wrong way. -
Hi,
Candyliquer35m: I would like to buy it. PM me and we can work out the details.
Burdette: What size did you use for the tweeter and 6.5" woofer?

Jeff,
PM sent. As indicated in the pm, I was lazy about taking additional pics so here is one of the grill.

Thanks, Jeff
I ordered mags from Polk for the 7Cs, so they were whatever size Polk recommended - I'll have to remove the drivers to be sure.
When I ordered from PE, if I remember correctly, they didn't have a large variety of sizes. I *think* I got the largest they had, which was about right for the tweeter and probably a little small for the woofer. But, those are on a pair of Monitor 5jr+ that are being used for surrounds, so shielding isn't an issue.
Here is what I found at PE:

I would ask Polk about the size. I didn't have a choice so I used what I could. I don't know whether you're supposed to try to match the original magnet as closely as possible or if that really doesn't matter. According to this chart, looks like you have a little flexibility.http://editweb.iglou.com/eminence/eminence/pages/products02/oem/magnets.htm -
The tweeter magnet will have just about zero effect on the monitor.
For what it's worth, I purchased the magnets from PE BEFORE I placed the AR-9's near the monitor. Turns out I didn't need them. The 12" woofs are pretty low to the floor, and the 8" lower mid-range driver magnet did not effect the screen at all.
Get clamps. Krazy Glue doesn't dry that fast. I would try the Gorilla Glue. It is good stuff. Not cheap, but good.

Hi George,
I will be needing some kind of magnets so if you would like to unload yours. Seems like it (for 12") would work. LMK Thanks, JeffMain system: Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 w Polk LSiM 703/ Pioneer 42" plasma w Flex Streamer, Sangaen HDT-1tuner

Hey Biker,
It would probably be cheaper for you to order them from Parts Express than from me. I think the damn things only cost 99 cents or 69 cents each. Parts Express can ship them to you much cheaper than I can too.
Don't do anything until you take possession of the speaker and put it in place. You may not need any. If you're going to place the speaker right atop the monitor, try it with the woofer on top. Might be just enough distance to negate the field.
Burdette also speaks the truth about the "cup" being a part of the shielding. Boston Acoustics shields their speakers that way. It is a metal "cup" that has a hole in it that matches up with a threaded opening on the **** end of the woofer. It removes the need to glue and clamp, and is permanent. I think you would have a hard time fabricating something like that so it's glue and clamps for you.

Hi,
Thanks Candyliquor35m it arrived in great shape. Its a small world indeed. Now I need to shield it and all the responses here will make that easy. I didnt know about bucky magnets but PE seems to have many sizes. I will call Polk and order silk tweeters for my sda-2 and ask about the magnets also. Thanks for all the help and info in making this work. Thanks, JeffMain system: Lyngdorf TDAI-2170 w Polk LSiM 703/ Pioneer 42" plasma w Flex Streamer, Sangaen HDT-1tuner

George-
I'd have to disagree on the tweeter point. When I got my replacement tweeters for hte SL1000's in my 5jrs, I walked past my computer w/ the box containing the tweeters, and the monitor discolored significantly. Those are some big magnets hanging off the back....Ludicrous gibs! -
Thanks Jeff, Enjoy. See ya at the family reunion
